Rebel Wolves, the studio led by The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt’s former game director, has landed a global publishing deal with Bandai Namco for its first game, upcoming action RPG, Dawnwalker.
Bandai Namco Europe (by way of Bandai Namco Entertainment) will publish the title at retail and on digital when it comes out on PC PlayStation 5, and Xbox. Described by the developers as a “dark fantasy narrative sandbox, AAA action-RPG set in medieval Europe”, Made an Unreal Engine 5 and aimed at mature audiences.
The game was originally announced back in January, and at the time, they emphasized player choices, which many of us know were a highlight of the work that CD Projekt Red put into The Witcher franchise. So, if there has been a dark, fantasy RPG with meaningful choices and lots of player impact to offer, then Dawnwalker might be something to keep an eye on.
There’s no window for the game’s potential release just yet, but it’s another step forward for the studio, which was co-founded in 2022 by Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, previously of CDPR.
As for the publishing deal with Bandai Namco, we do get a bit of a hint of what the studio is planning, and it looks like they are thinking long term. According to Rebel Wolves’ CPO, Tomasz Tinc, in a press release: “We're looking forward to working with them to bring the first chapter of the Dawnwalker saga to gamers worldwide”.
There's still not much that is yet been revealed about Dawnwalker, but now with a publishing deal in place and what seem like clear franchise plans, we'll probably learn more soon.
