It’s no secret Baldur’s Gate 3 took the gaming community by storm once released. Whether it was the intense turn-based battles or the immersive storylines and dialogue, Baldur’s Gate 3 took the victory as Game of the Year during the Steam Awards 2023.
There were several phenomenal games competing with Baldur’s Gate 3 during the Steam Awards, including Lethal Company, Resident Evil 4, and FC24. Moreover, the generational RPG has now secured the title of Game of the Year multiple times within the same year. During the Game Awards 2023, it was announced that Larian Studios’ game was a knockout, and took one of the biggest awards known within the gaming community, while the RPG also took home the Game of the Year award in the Golden Joysticks. It was also our RPG of the Year 2023.
One of the interesting things about this year's Steam Awards was who took home Most Innovative Gameplay and Better With Friends awards. Lethal Company, having only come out in October of 2023, took home the gold as the game that was best played with friends, while Bethesda’s Starfield took the Best Innovative Gameplay award. Starfield receiving this award might make for some interesting conversations down the road, given the fact that these awards are 100% player-voted and the chance of a troll is...well…almost certain. But only time will tell.
Not only did Baldur’s Gate 3 step away with the GOTY title, but also the Outstanding Story-Rich Game award. This is not shocking, as there are so many different paths to follow, all leading to an immersive and gripping ending for those who embarked on the journey.
