Baldur’s Gate 3 was already a great game as it was, but very few PC games can escape the hands of the ever-devious modders. Luckily, not only was developer Larian Studios always receptive to that, but they embraced the lifestyle, opening up official modding capabilities as of Patch 7 on Friday—and it seems the modders have returned the love.
Since the September 6 opening of the official Baldur’s Gate 3 mod site, already, over one million mods have been officially downloaded, according to Larian Studios’s CEO, Swen Vincke.
“Modding is pretty big - we had more than a million mods installed in less than 24 hours,” reads the X post on Vincke’s official Twitter account.

Seemingly endless mods were already available unofficially through myriad websites, but official mod support takes a lot of the guesswork for both mod creators and players out. It also apparently did so for the developers, who were able to get that count of how many mods players were loading up into their clients.
But keep in mind, these are only the officially-downloaded and supported mods. The official Modding Guidelines restrict what types of mods can be uploaded—but for everything else, they pretty explicitly tell you that you can just mess around with other third-party mods and tools. Plus, approved console mods will be supported in the future.
Also, apparently, “some NSFW mods” will not be officially supported (not technically, anyway) per an official forum post, so surely that takes out a number of utilized mods comparable to a small city’s population. Still, a million’s a good start.
