Avalon Lords - Redefining the MMORTS (For Real)

Sister site, RTSGuru.com editors recently had the chance to talk to the team at Animus Interactive about their hugely ambitious MMO+RTS Avalon Lords. You're going to want to read this one and can do so over at RTSGuru.com.

The world of Avalon will be a fully realized 3d map, where everything in the game actually exists somewhere in the world.  Most MMORTS games don’t do this due to the costs of content development, but our indie team is lean and hungry and we want an immersive, beautiful world to strew bloody corpses over, so we’re making it happen.

The map isn’t just there to be pretty.  Unlike every other MMORTS out there, your armies actually physically traverse the terrain.  You want to attack your neighbor?  Give your armies marching orders and tell them to take the slow but stealthy route through mountain passes and forests, or the obvious but quick route down the main trade road.  Send scouting parties to look for ambushes.  Build more roads to help reinforcements arrive quickly.  At the same time you’ll need to set up patrols and guard stations around your borders to watch for trespassers on your own territory and protect your supply lines.
