ASUS recently revealed the ROG Ally X, the newest iteration of its handheld PC gaming device, during an official ASUS livestream. It’s not a true sequel to the ROG Ally, which released last year, but it does bring a number of key quality-of-life improvements and hardware upgrades.
The ROG Ally X will still be powered by AMD’s Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor, but owners can look forward to upgraded storage space, RAM, doubled battery size, improvements to the system’s ergonomics with an updated chassis, and better cooling. The Armory Crate software has also been updated to 1.5, which should hopefully make it easier for players to manage their various games on the system.
The full list of specs follows:
- 1TB M.2 2280 SSD
- 24GB LPDDR5X-7500 RAM
- 80Wh battery (doubled from the previous 40 Wh)
There are other improvements, too. The system's joysticks now feature stiffer springs and a five-million-cycle lifespan. The D-Pad is said to be more precise. The system’s motherboard has been redesigned with a user-serviceable M.2 2280 slot, two new USB-C ports, and more.
Gamers can pre-order the ASUS ROG Ally X at Best Buy for a retail price of $799. The system launches on July 22, 2024.
