Ashes of Creation Outlines Major Changes To Gatherables and Surveying

With development of Ashes of Creation and its gameplay systems ongoing, it seems that the team is focusing a bit more on a variety of systems. The latest update from the team goes over revamps on how they want to make the Surveying and Gatherable Spawning Systems more immersive and “competitive.”

Instead of consistent “nodes,” as is often common in MMORPGs and was the way before this, the next updates of Ashes of Creation will introduce Gathering Spawn Clustering.

“Instead of static spawn locations, gatherables will dynamically respawn at new locations within larger spawning areas, meaning that when a gatherable resource is acquired, it won’t return to the same location,” the post reads. This system requires quite a bit of traversing the land in order to actually find it, but the hope seems to be keeping players on their toes (and possibly demotivating botters).

Later in the piece, they note that the Gathering Spawn Clustering system is also programmed to make sure the nodes appear where they make sense, such as along riverbanks or within caves. These areas are more “weighted” in their chances to appear, meaning there’ll be relatively consistent types of spots to look for.

Surveying has also gotten some changes, letting Ashes of Creation players get general information about Gatherables that are likely to spawn nearby. This information will make spots more highly contested in the hopes that players explore more areas to find these items—and increase the friction along the way for a more interesting experience.

Plus, the Processing Stations will be getting an update so that players can be more flexible in how big their jobs are, and Gathering Tools will be equipable items. The way Gatherables’ rarity affects item quality and stats will also be reconsidered in the future to make Gatherables more meaningful as a whole.

This is just one of quite a few updates and additions that Ashes of Creation seems to have in store, with the Rogue coming at the end of March.
