Are the Illuminate coming to Helldivers 2? Are they already here? Players are sharing videos and accounts of blue lasers appearing in their matches and concluding that the Illuminates, who were the Protoss-like third faction of the original Helldivers game, are returning in HD2.
One player, Dye333, wrote:
I was just minding my business heading towards an objective, can’t remember the objective but no enemy was around, wasn’t in combat, and no combat music playin. Just vibin. And out of nowhere I got hit with a vibrant blue laser shot, almost resembling a sniper round, from an angle that would suggest a high angle shot.
In the original Helldivers, Illuminates would often kill players off-screen with their blue laser firing weapons. It’s not as convincing as the evidence of flying Terminids we saw recently, but it’s possible we’re seeing the first hints of the return of the conspicuously absent third faction. For now, Arrowhead CEO Johan Pilestedt is denying the rumors. But then again, Arrowhead also denied the clear presence of flying Terminds so who know’s what’s real anymore?
In other Helldivers 2 news, according to TD Cowen analyst Doug Creutz in a report by Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier, the game is selling “well ahead of expectations” and has sold over eight million copies, with sales increasing week-over-week.
