Kakao Games continues to fight against exploits and in its latest change after announcing that ArcheAge: Unchained will get a monthly subscription fee, has severely limited the trade abilities for free trial accounts. This comes as Kakao also updates the ban investigations for exploits and RMT.
By now, we’re probably more familiar with what happens when there’s a free to play conversion for an MMORPG than the opposite. With ArcheAge: Unchained changing over to a subscription model, there still need to be ways to get new players interested. This is, of course, where the free trials come in. Given the recent investigations and banwaves Kakao has been sharing with regards to exploits and RMT since the company took over publishing duties last month, it makes sense to also move carefully here.
First, there were changes made to the original ArcheAge fresh start servers to slow down reward acquisition and add some restrictions to trade, mail, and leveling requirements for storage.
Now, it’s time to apply some protections to ArcheAge: Unchained, and free trial accounts make sense. The restrictions apply to nearly all aspects of trade on free trial accounts. You won’t be able to engage in any one to one trade. The UI itself won’t even be available. You won’t be able to gift items at the Marketplace, send mail, buy or sell items via the auction house, buy houses, or create crafting requests. Free trial accounts will also be unable to change storage permissions, and permission to open will be set to private by default to prevent accessing that storage from another account by listing it as public or on a family setting.
You’ll still be able to get a taste of the game and the basic functions, gameplay, combat and the environments, but for the most part, the economy will be off limits. This compromise should help with some of the nagging issues over exploiting the systems. In the most recent update, investigations are still ongoing, but another 273 accounts were banned for exploits, speedhacking, and RMT activities.
