Apex Legends Revenue Tumbles Nearly 75% Since February

SuperData Research has published its latest report on the top grossing titles for April 2019. For the first time since its debut in February, Apex Legends has dropped out of the top ten on both PC and console. The game brought home $24M in April, "down significantly for the second month in a row". Earnings are only a quarter of those raked in by Apex Legends in February when it generated $92M.

The Season One Battle Pass did not impress players and many in the community have complained that there is a lack of new content. This may be partially related to Respawn's admirable commitment to developer health by keeping "crunch" to a minimum.

Another sign of trouble for Apex Legends is the precipitous drop-off in Twitch viewers where it currently sits at #12. Over the last seven days, AL has seen nearly 19k viewers, down from a peak of 674k in February.

Down doesn't mean out, however. With a mobile port in the works, it is possible that Apex Legends can recapture some of its initial hype. Both Fortnite and PUBG mobile versions have done extremely well. According to Sensor Tower, mobile battle royale games have generated over $2B in revenue. A good quality port may be just the ticket to a return to health for Apex Legends.
