Even if you tried and dropped it after the 2020 uptick, Among Us is still a hit among younger players and those who are looking to yell at their friends in a fun, bantery manner. In the meantime, you might have seen clips on YouTube or TikTok of players getting up to shenanigans in the VR mode, which allows for a 3D, first-person experience.
Innersloth has announced via a trailer that it’s bringing that 3D VR version of the player-versus-player sabotage mystery game to, well, non-VR clients with Among Us 3D.
With a Steam page already up, the new edition promises “the core Among Us gameplay you know and love — tasks, sabotages, Emergency Meetings, and venting — now in an extremely immersive, 3D environment where everything (yup, everything!) is close up and personal.” Alongside the customizable avatars from the first one, this version also has the VR-exclusive “task” minigames and proximity based voice chat.
And for those who have friends already playing the VR version of Among Us, it’s fully cross-compatible, meaning both 3D versions can link up (or sabotage each other). The VR version did actually require a headset for gameplay, and a non-VR edition of this first-person 3D gameplay was heavy in demand.
The Steam Page claims that there’ll be a partial demo coming with the upcoming Steam Next Fest, including the crossplay and the cosmetics, and it claims not all the “game modes” will be available either.
It seems a timely addition in this current environment of multiplayer gaming, with first-person multiplayer titles such as Phasmophobia and Lethal Company making waves among Discord bestie groups.
