According to VideoCardz.com via Cowcotland, AMD’s flagship GPU, Radeon VII, might reach end of life soon.
The current stock will remain in stores for sale, however, additional stock will no longer be manufactured. We reviewed the Radeon VII, with incoming Managing Editor Joseph Bradford liking the card while stating, “the Radeon VII does feel a little overpriced when you factor in hardware ray tracing on the equally priced RTX 2080.”
When compared to the recently released AMD Navi cards, the RX 5700 and RX 5700 XT, the Radeon VII is just far too power hungry due in part to its use of HBM2 memory compared to the GDDR6 memory inside the Navi cards.
If true, this report opens doors to the Radeon VII being replaced by those pesky Navi 20 rumors, with AMD potentially including hardware acceleration for ray tracing.
