Amazon joins a growing list of companies canceling their plans at the Games Development Conference in San Francisco this month amid concerns over the Coronavirus in Northern California.
More and more companies seemingly join this list, as The Verge reported this morning that Microsoft and Epic announced they too would be skipping the event, which is causing some in the gaming industry to wonder if GDC will even continue as planned. This news also comes on the heels of CCP Games canceling its premier EVE FanFest 2020 in Iceland this morning due to these growing concerns.
Via The Amazon Game Tech Blog:
"AWS has made the difficult decision to withdraw from the 2020 Game Developers Conference (GDC) in San Francisco due to continued concerns over COVID-19." The company will instead host a "global online event, open to everyone, to showcase our planned content for GDC and more."
It remains to be seen how many more developers and companies will pull from GDC and how this will continue to affect the games world moving forward.
