Fresh off opening its first European studio, Amazon Games has announced that it will publish UK-based Maverick Games’ first title, a “narrative-led, open-world driving game”.
In the announcement of the deal between Amazon and Maverick, the project is described as a new AAA multiplatform title that will eventually release on PC PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. Studio head and creative director Mike Brown is a veteran of the Forza Horizon series, including as the creative director behind Forza Horizon 5. In fact, several of the core team members are also veterans of Forza Horizon.
Amazon Games VP Christoph Hartmann talks about the decision to move forward with the studio. “In our ongoing global search for talented development teams who are building compelling titles that players will love, Maverick Games stood out as a studio that can deliver on all fronts….,” he says. Going on to call the project “fresh and innovative”.
The game’s lead writer is the co-creator of the acclaimed and award-winning British TV series Skins and several of the other team members, aside from Forza, have worked on IPs like Fable, Just Cause 3, GRiD and more.
Amazon Games, for its efforts, continued to look for opportunities to expand as a publisher. In addition to currently-running New World and Lost Ark, upcoming titles include Throne and Liberty, Blue Protocol, the next Tomb Raider game, and an all-new, Amazon-developed Lord of the Rings MMO.
