With less than a full week to go before New World: Aeternum launches on PC and consoles, Amazon is breaking down exactly how servers and server transfers will work in the new version of its MMO.
Interestingly, there will be a staggered global release, which isn't common for MMOs nowadays. European and AP Southeast worlds will unlock at 12am PT (7am UTC) on October 15th. Meanwhile, US West, East and SA East will open up at 6am PT/9am ET on the 15th. This is across all platforms.

To update the PC version, servers will go down the night before at 8:30 PM PT on October 14th. As for when you can pre-load, Xbox Series S|X and PlayStation 5 players will be able to preload starting on October 13th, while PC players can download the update via Steam during the downtime on the 14th.
With the launch of consoles comes an influx of new players to the MMO, which will necessitate new servers. The current game worlds will be marked as "Legacy" worlds, while the servers that launch with Aeternum will be marked "Standard." Players on Legacy Worlds cannot transfer to a Standard world, though Standard characters can transfer to Legacy Worlds. However, once transferred, they cannot be transferred off.
Console players will also have console-specific servers if they don't want to deal with cross-play, and those will be clearly marked as well. However, you'll need to turn cross-play off (it's on by default) in order to access those worlds.
New World: Aeternum is gearing up for it's launch next week, laying the ground work for the MMO's future. This past week the team showcased the reward tracks for the Season of Opportunity, which launches with Aeternum, while they also took a look at the new Cursed Mists PvP zone, the new 10-player Raid, and more. We had the chance to go hands-on with the endgame content in New World: Aeternum during a visit to Amazon's Irvine studio last month, and came away cautiously optimistic about the future of the game - especially if you're a PC player. Make sure to check out our interview with Game Director Scot Lane and Creative Director Dave Verfaillie about the upcoming revamp of their MMO.
