It’s a big week for The Elder Scrolls Online, with an in-person community event featuring a special Necrom preview opportunity, as well as the Necrom prologue chapter released free for all ESO players.

You won’t have to own anything other than the base game to get yourself started in the Necrom prologue quest, “Eye of Fate”. You can pick that up from the Crown Store starting today and immerse yourself in the mysterious Shadow Over Morrowind adventure currently happening by joining up with Hermaeus Mora’s emissary, Leramil the Wise. In what is sure to be an easy task (supposedly), you’ll have to undertake a short trial to prove your worth to the Daedric Prince.

As you might expect, things aren’t as simple as they might have seemed, as things turn quickly. “This simple trial quickly transforms into a spiraling conspiracy that will have you questioning who among Mora’s enigmatic cults you can possibly trust,” according to the announcement.

If you do take on the quest and complete it, you’ll earn yourself a reward, the Unstable Emerald Glyphic Memento. In the process, you’ll get a taste of what it will be like when the full Necrom chapter releases in June. Mysteries, dark secrets, conspiracies, cults, and dangerous magic are all just the beginning.

We recently had a hands-on preview of Necrom and shared our impressions.

The ESO team also shared a profile of Leramil the Wise to give you some details and background on just who she is. The lore entry was written as they tend to be, as a letter, and we learn that:

“She can be cryptic, aloof, inscrutable, and mysterious, but booksellers and other scholars sing her praises. She is generous when purchasing rare and unusual tomes, and she isn’t above sharing certain aspects of her studies with others. She is very careful, however, not to overtly demonstrate her connection to Hermaeus Mora or Daedric research, which has allowed her to continue to operate in even the most restrictive regions of Tamriel where anything related to Daedra is prohibited”.

Necrom will be out on PC and Mac on June 5th and June 20th on Xbox and PlayStation.
