Albion Online is getting even more improvements to the Outlands in the next big update, Rogue Frontier, which releases February 3rd. The update will offer new challenges, new faction, player experience improvements, and a new category for the Albion Journal.
The Smugglers, a brand new faction, has decided to set up in the Outlands, taking up space in a notable way. Smuggler’s Dens are a new series of hubs to check out, allowing for solo players to have access to a base and features like banks, repair stations, travel planners, and more. They're designed to give solo players and those who play in very small groups a base away from the Royal Continent and safe places to go when you're traversing the lands.
Since the Smugglers are a new faction, you can help them out and earn something for your loyalty. There are a number of ways to do this, from free and captured Smugglers from Royal Guards, recovering Contraband from wrecked wagons, and getting your hands on Smuggler’s Coins to buy some influence. Increasing your standing with the faction can net you things like the Smuggler's Cape, Which can reduce your potion slot cooldown, a new wardrobe set, and themed ring and avatar.
The Smuggler’s Network connects each Den to the Smuggler's Market, as essentially an alternate marketplace option. Buy and sell items on the network from one Den to another, but the further away the item is, the more it will cost. You could venture out to get the items for cheaper, or even back to the Royal Continent if the added danger is worth it. There are pros and cons to doing it either way and this offers not only more options, but a little more strategy.
Rogue Frontier will also add three new Crystal weapons–Forcepull Bracers (War Gloves), Rotcaller Staff (Cursed Staff), and Skystrider Bow. Additionally, get ready for kill trophies. these are Furniture items that have a chance to drop whenever you kill another player in PvP. If it's a very valuable or difficult kill, the greater the chance you have of getting a trophy. Display them in the open world or on your islands if you want so if you want to display your PvP prowess as a warning, or an invitation.
There are some feature and quality of life updates on the way too. The new Bank Overview UI lets you see everything you have stashed in a single window that you can sort and search through. With the new opportunities from the Smugglers, this should make your life easier. There are new Dynamic resource hotspots on the way, balance changes for combat, and a new Albion Journal category, Creatures, that lets you log all of the creatures you can and earn some new rewards.
We can expect to learn more details in the coming weeks.
