The Albion Online team has updates on the past weekend’s DDoS attacks, disconnects, a payment issue, what to do and what to avoid.
Today’s updated statement reiterated that this weekend was definitely not the way they want to present the game service to the community. “A weekend that, unfortunately, was nowhere near as smooth as anyone would have hoped and that fell short of the frictionless experience we want to deliver for our players,” it read, in part.
It is, after all, anniversary time and the start of new features being announced. The biggest point of trouble this weekend was the DDOS attack that created a series of outages. While the team has worked hard to mitigate the issues and keep the community updated while these attacks have been going on, it is not clear yet whether or not they are beyond the string of attacks.
“The bad news is that, since the attacker is extremely dedicated and creative in their efforts, it is likely to take some more time to fully prevent them from having any impact on Albion Online’s systems. We and our server host are working tirelessly on proper solutions for healing the frustrating situation. We are committed to overcoming this problem as soon as we can.”
Sandbox Interactive has committed to compensating affected players for the issues, but are waiting until things stabilize before they can figure out what a fair compensation for outages will look like.
All of the issues have been accompanied by related problems, including some zone crashes created by the overall outages and overloaded servers, including some chests double spawning and other things out of sync. Maintenance today worked to address those zone crashes.
Another issue that popped up involved failure to complete purchases via iOS over the weekend. all players who did try to complete a transaction via their Apple devices should see those go through after today's maintenance.
The devs know that there's a whole lot going on, and that there could still be further attacks even though they and their partners have been working on better security. The team is asking that you keep reporting bots, but don't message support if there's an ongoing attack or outages since they are very much aware that the servers may not yet be out of the woods.
