Albion Online’s move to seasonal updates continues, with the next update on the way, Foundations, revealed, with new features like Fortfications, and more to come.
Game Director Robin Henkys introduces what’s coming in Foundations in an official devtalk video, as well as a new blog. In the first season, Crystal Raiders, 2024 started off with a bang, with Territory Raiding taking center stage.
The team continues shaping the Albion experience, including by way of competition and individual progression, and the upcoming addition of Fortifications is set to offer some new options for all players in guilds big and small. Territory Raiding was a bit tougher for small guilds to participate and defend against, but the Crystal Raiders update was responsible for getting more players out in the Outlands, including a more diverse representation of guilds.
Fortifications will allow guilds to build up fortified walls in territories to increase defense against attackers. Over time, you’ll be able to upgrade and build higher tiers of Fortifications using stone, which are stronger and will be harder to break. Thus buying more time for defenders to strategize or even to gather more forces to help out. Another change in the update comes to Territory Guards, which will be upgradeable, letting you unlock new abilities for additional help.
Upgrading fortifications with stone gives a boost to the stone economy. when you want to upgrade them, you will not be able to upgrade the whole fortification in one shot so you'll have to make strategic decisions on what is more important to upgrade now. Attackers may have to even rethink their own strategies, creating more variety.
The Albion Online team is also looking to get some heat off of PvE players in the area doing their thing and create situations that encourage guild members to be out in their territories more. Territories will offer new daily reward chests, with variable contents that will change based on how active you are in the area.
The Foundations update will also bring more new content, including the next Crystal Weapons, and the addition of spectator mode. More improvements to existing features are also on the way.
