Albion Online has a new development update offering a look at applying Roads of Avalon-style rebalancing to the open world, more PvE content, reward changes, and more.
Sandbox Interactive is going beyond Paths To Glory, applying some of the feedback and lessons learned from that update. The Roads of Avalon changes were particularly successful in meeting their goals of expanding both PvP and PvE activity in the area. So now they want to spread elements of those changes to the open world.
In deciding to apply some of these rebalancing changes to the open world, they’ve laid out several goals. In the video, Game Director Robin Henkys dives into the goals and how they’re going to make them happen. Their goals are:
- Increased attractiveness to solo players
- More rewarding mid-sized group content
- Increased activity in the inner-Outlands
- More challenging and rewarding PvE
How they'll go about this includes a series of new PVE objectives for solo players and mechanics to help those soloers to go deeper into the Outlands to do more stuff. To make this possible, they’ll work to reduce ganking near Portal Cities. They're also looking to draw players out and away from Portal Cities by offering scaling rewards and difficulty in the inner-Outlands. This will depend on region quality.
We can also expect increased rewards for doing group randomized dungeons, and there will be rebalanced mobs in those randomized dungeons and in the open world itself. Higher tier mobs will get rebalanced to abide by ‘high risk, high reward’. They’re hoping these changes will bring back healthy levels of open-world PvE, while also offering more content to new players before they dare enter full loot PVP zones.

Those are not the only changes on the way, as we can expect additional features and improvements. Those will include new Albion Journal categories, more Crystal Weapons, And improvements to HUD customization, the introduction of savable setting presets, and a slew of improvements to inventory management. They'll also introduce their next phase of strengthened cheat protection.
