Albion Online’s next big update, Horizons, is set to bring improvements to the Outlands experience and improved, more challenging PvE content. A new dev talk and blog detail what this means for the open world.
Horizons intends to provide “a more lively, accessible, and rewarding Outlands experience” in an intentional way that also attempts to find ways to tempt those small groups and solo players out, while also making sure to keep the appeal to guilds to control space in the lawless spaces.
Features include a new S.A.F.E Portal, which lets you pay a varying fee in silver to instantly teleport to a random Outlands cluster. This gets you right into the Outlands (and back through the portal if you return within 90 minutes), letting you skip the risk of travel. While owning territory in the Outlands still matters for guilds, these portals will also spread the population across the Outlands, meaning more people in more remote areas too and also making territory control more appealing in areas further out.
Dynamic Solo and Veteran mob camps are also on the way, setting up new PvE options in the world. There’s treasure guarded by members of local NPC factions in these camps, but act fast, since the camps will be active for limited times and then move. You can only complete the mission at a particular camp once, so if you want to find more of them you will have to go explore the Outlands. Mob power gets adjusted, with rewards scaling proportionally. Resources also get special hotspots with boosted supply for limited periods of time.
Exploration will have another advantage since there will be region quality scaling that increases the rewards as you get closer to the center, letting you determine how much of a risk you want to take. A new player count indicator will show you the general range of active players in a region to let you assess how much PvP risk you may face.
Expect a veteran dungeon rework, with rebalance reward that suit group sizes, with bonuses for completing the dungeons in a group. Dungeon entrances will also close soon after you enter, greatly reducing the risk of PKers ruining your dungeon run.
There will be more Albion Journal content, new Crystal creatures, and more on the way.
