Airship Syndicate, the development studio behind the hero collecting action RPG Wayfinder, recently released a statement via Linkedin detailing the extent of layoffs the studio has recently made. According to the post 16 people, including 12 full-time employees were let go from the team.

Airships Syndicate has been working hard on Wayfinder over the past year, to turn around sluggish sales. With their 1.0 version of Wayfinder on the horizon alongside a critical role collab, the team is edging towards a new launch. However, over the past couple years we’ve seen Wayfinder lose its publisher, have pubishing of the property transferred to them, get hit with a round of layoffs in February, and had  a temporary suspension of sales while they made tremendous game-changing adjustments to the game.

With launch just a few short weeks away to the October 21st launch, the team will be making its way across the launch finish line with a leaner team after the latest round of layoffs. “Earlier this year during a studio restructuring we both took pay cuts that are still in place today. In addition, we are both contributing personal funds to help Airship continue operating with our remaining staff.” The statement on LinkedIn from CEO Joe Madureira and President Ryan Stefanelli said.

The team also hints to developing future projects in addition to fulfilling the Wayfinder roadmap to completion. For fans of the game, it seems that what Airship Syndicate has been doing has not gone unnoticed, as the recent Steam review scores are edging up into Very Positive territory, which is a stark improvement over the mixed review score the game has seen recently.

Wayfinder will see a host of new features at launch, including cross play between PC, Xbox and PlayStation, and a Critical Role collaboration where players will be able to pick up a collaborative supporter pack with cosmetics, trinkets and housing items for Critical Role fans. Crossplay, the collab, and a host of updates for the game, will be available when the game launches October 21st,2024.
