Paradox Interactive and Triumph Studios are marking the first anniversary of Age of Wonders 4 with some details on the first year, a new free update, and a special real-life Dire swag option.
As part of the anniversary, the new update includes a few special gifts - a standard and exotic raptor mount and a Dragon Scale Interface skin. Both of these are available on all platforms starting today. Triumph is also looking ahead to the Eldritch Realms expansion coming in June and beyond that, is promising to keep developing the game, including more new free and paid content.
Over the past year, there have been more than 4 million factions created, according to Triumph in a new blog. Most chose the Mortal Champion ruler origin, with 48%, while the other two origins, Wizard King and Dragon Lord, split the other 52%. Top culture was the Barbarians. When creating factions, a full 70% chose to fill their factions using non-human fantasy forms, with Molekin the least popular choice.
As far as how people played, 78% played on easy or normal, with 7% on relaxed, 9% on hard and 6% on Brutal for those few brave souls in it for the maximum challenge. There are other stats in the studio’s reveals, including top tome choices, top starting tomes (one of which fit in both categories), and more. There’s also a section for “amount of Dire Penguin victims” with “uncountable”. And this is important, since, well, you’re getting a Dire Penguin of your own. If you own the game, that is.
The team is making a Dire Penguin plushie. Yes, a real plushie can be yours to remind you of how many times the Dire Penguins have frustrated you.
