Age of Wonders 4 is coming this May. Triumph Studios is developing the franchise’s first new game in nine years. Paradox Interactive will publish on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S.
This new entry in the fantasy strategy series aims to bring more of what players have loved over the past 25 years, along with new customization and replayability, improved combat, and new ways to integrate storytelling in 4X.
There’s an announcement stream, and some new info about what we can expect. With the launch just a few months away, this is sure to be just the beginning of the details we’ll get to know before then.
“Powerful Wizard Kings have returned to the realms to reign as gods among mortals, and players will rise to challenge their rule using Tomes of Magic to unleash arcane destruction and evolve their armies, gaining new abilities and forms. For the first time in the series, players can create their own custom factions, and leave their mark on countless worlds through each choice they make.”
Now it's up to you. In Age of Wonders 4, you get craft your own followers. You can combine bodily forms, traits, and arcane powers. If you are a fan of fantasy gameplay and stories, you'll get some ideas as to what you can create. Maybe you want to create a society of mystic elves, halflings, cannibals or other options that fit with fantasy stories and tropes. Once you've done that you'll also be able to enchant and enhance your armies, and see your people change over time and as they grow and face enemies.
Age of Wonders 4 will blend strategy and fantasy, including role-playing elements in a way that the team is looking to add on to what they've done before. The choices you make will open different challenges and advantages, tactical choices, and even the ability to explore new powers. Yes, the game will also be very mod-friendly to support the community.
Triumph Studios even unveiled a new event system that will add to the depth of Storytelling in the game. your decisions will actually shape the world as you go on and decide how you want to play. Whether you are diplomatic or you just want to dominate, you'll see changes happen over time. You'll also possibly see your created followers from one game reappear as your allies or rivals in subsequent games that you play.
