After Taking Over PlanetSide 2 Development Last Year, Toadman Will Close After Completing Contracts

The future of PlanetSide 2 is as-yet unknown

Enad Global 7 has made some new cuts, opting to “wind down” Toadman Interactive, which has been the team behind PlanetSide 2 since it was sold off last year. What this means for the future of PlanetSide 2 is unclear.

EG7 sent out a press release about the decision to close Toadman after “several initiatives to turn the subsidiary profitable”, efforts that included earlier cost-cutting in 2024.

“Ongoing Work-for-Hire (WFH) contracts with Daybreak and Cold Iron will be protected in this process, this means that a complete closure of activities will be optimized to fulfill the contract’s deliverables. This will have an immediate effect on all employees not engaged in these contracts.”

This affects 69 employees, and 42 of them are expected to stay to fulfill those contracts before they too will be let go. After a brutal two years in the games industry, 2025 already has some cuts happening. EG7 does cite the ongoing “challenges” in the industry as one of the reasons why they’ve made this decision, saying that Toadman couldn’t land a sufficient number of new contracts fast enough.

Toadman is also, as the announcement notes, working on a Cold Iron project, presumably the  previously-announced “new multiplayer action shooter based on a major global IP license across PC and consoles for release in 2025”.

We can consider that work on PlanetSide 2 is among those existing work for hire contracts, as that relationship began less than a year ago. If that's true, the length and terms are yet unknown, and that means until we get official word on the game's future, we don't know just what to expect.

Over at the PlanetSide subreddit, there’s a mix of ‘wait and see’ and pessimism over the future of the sequel after this news. Toadman had been asking for community input on potential improvements and had already begun adding and planning some overhauls.

We’ve reached out for comment and will update if we receive something.
