Following last week’s reported UK studio closure, Inflexion Games is laying off additional staff and restructuring its Canadian HQ after Nightingale’s Early Access wasn’t “commercially successful enough to continue development at our studio’s previous size”.
The team announced the additional cuts via a notice (which officially confirmed the UK studio closure) from CEO Aaryn Flynn. “Like many other studios over the past few years, we have been hit by the stark realities of the industry” And are making these cuts after exploring other options. There's no word on how many employees were let go, but he says that the studio is supporting those as they search for new jobs.
While this is another big change, development will continue, and Flynn says that he will be answering questions from the community about the next steps and also talk about what future updates will look like.
The Inflexion team has been open about not growing Nightingale at the pace they hoped for and at sometimes dropping player numbers. The recent big Realms Rebuilt update overhauled a lot of systems and elements of the game, in addition to adding more continuity, more stuff to do, and a campaign. The intent was to make adventuring more varied and a little more directed, since some feedback they received was that Sometimes people didn't know what to do next. They also increased the realm variety, expanded building, overhauled crafting, and added more POIs and content to discover in the world.
As anyone paying attention to gaming knows, the past couple of years have been rough, and “restructuring” has been a common thing to hear as many studios work to move forward after significant cuts.
Yesterday, before Inflexion layoffs were announced, the team posted a change in technical support. Instead of opening support tickets, if you need technical help, there’s a troubleshooting tips section and an Aha community crowdsourced feedback portal. Looks like support staff may be among those affected.
