After Half the Team Laid Off, Camelot Unchained Community Demands Regular Updates and Gets...Something

A petition proposes legal action

After recent layoffs, Camelot Unchained lost nearly half of its development team, and a new report indicates that there may be some sort of response to community questions and threatts of legal action…eventually.

The original report and this followup were from MOP, and it seems that after the layoff news became public, those who stuck around in the community criticized Unchained entertainment for its lack of communication as well as concern about the frustrating lack of communication. One person, under the username  Phallic Ballchinius,  started a petition on the official forum listing a few demands, saying that if they didn't hear from the developers with a timeline and had guaranteed regular updates by April 20th, the community might look into filing a class action lawsuit.

Another ask was the potential to reopen refunds for backers who simply wanted out. Considering that CU began as a crowdfunded RvR MMORPG,  that could hold some water, but successful legal action in these cases is rare.

As far as we know, planned release is still "2025" and  the team has promised a state of the game presentation from Mark Jacobs sometime in “early 2025”. As of this writing, it is February 4th, so it is definitely early 2025 with no announced plans and little communication, which is, of course, the source of this new petition amid community frustration. It is, at this point, no surprise when  games take a long time to develop,  and I think  many of us have determined that supporting a crowdfunded game is kind of like playing the lottery. Something good might come out of  the money you put down, but you could also just lose it and not see anything in return.

To the petition in the forum, the community manager responded, saying that the message has been forwarded to Jacob's and that a response would be on the way–within 90 days. Something tells us that this isn't exactly going to be satisfying. Whether or not there is legal action coming, that remains to be seen.
