The Abyss Online team shared a development update to sum up what they’ve been up to in Q1. They've upgraded their engine, made a number of refinements and enhancements, and have announced an Early Access release date.
On the technical front, they’ve upgraded to Unreal Engine 5.3, and that change has improved performance and visuals. They've also held some server tests and they have expanded their testing platforms to include mac, and they are looking towards mobile and console in the future.
The team is still planning for a full release sometime later this year, but they have decided to go ahead and open up Early Access on April 18th. They have a series of planned updates to follow through with, but to get them through the planned final development months, Early Access will build off from their alpha experiences.
Early Access pricing has been set (and pre-purchase is now available) for $24.95. Abyss Online will not require a mandatory subscription after the full launch, but the team is planning to offer a subscription option that will give you perks like lower taxes and reduced fees for fast travel.
If you pre-purchase now you'll get access to all the next closed testing leading up to Early Access as well as the game when the Early Access launches. According to this new update, the team is planning on having the servers running longer as they head to early access, especially considering that there have been many changes since their last playtest back in November.
Some content they've overhauled include animations, particle effects, loot systems, and procedural generation as they keep the test servers up and polish up for next month’s Early Access. They’re also going to begin testing some new maps that host 200 players.
Looks like things are moving ahead for Abyss Online, and with Early Access in just a matter of weeks, we’ll likely be seeing more from the game as they work towards a full launch.
