New World has a Tales of Aeternum lore entry today, “Skye the Speardaughter”. For those already playing through Fellowship & Fire, Skye may already be a familiar character, but even for those who haven’t dived in all the way just yet, the blog does deliver some background to enrich the experience.
Skye is a customer that hired the Silver Crows, and she has a specific assignment that makes her different–one involving a very old and powerful Varangian warlock’s curse on her and her lover, Aidyn. We enter into what is a tense moment between Skye and Silver Crows leader Grace O’Malley. Skye asks Grace where Aidyn is, but Grace refuses to answer and Sky feels the power of the curse.
“Grace’s smile dropped from her face.
Skye smirked. Yes. That’s right. Show your true self. Show me, that you’re every bit as small as me.
“You’re my customer, and you’re my friend,” Grace said. “But whatever you’re doing, Skye, I suggest you stop it right now.””
This is just the beginning, as the story unfolds, adding some more depth to these characters’ relationships.
“Grace let out an exasperated breath.
Skye flushed with anger. “Do I trouble you, Grace?”
“To be honest, I am troubled, that this curse is making you say and do things that you’ll regret later,” said Grace.
“That sounded like a threat to me. Was it? Were you stupid enough to insult and threaten a Speardaughter?” Skye reached around for her spear and stamped the shaft into the hard-packed earth. Even that small movement left Skye winded and weak. And that made her more angry than ever.”
The rest of the blog wraps up this particular tale, and you’ll have to play through the Fellowship & Fire story to actually find out what happens to the cursed lovers and the Faceless One, the warlock that cursed them. The blog does add a few more layers and some ways to look at the story if you’ve played through it or have yet to begin.
