Last week we detailed a merger of Blizzard and Vicarious Visions, a subsidiary of Activision that has been working on several titles, such as the Tony Hawk remakes, has also been working on a Diablo II remake in coordination with Blizzard.
According to a report from Bloomberg, Blizzard has reportedly been working on a remake of Diablo II for quite some time, but issues in development and the reception of Warcraft III: Reforged had Blizzard second guessing the team behind the remake of Diablo II: Resurrected. After some reorganizing of the classic games’ team within Blizzard, talk of a Diablo II remake are still ongoing, only now the game will continue development through a freshly reorganized Blizzard, with the former Vicarious Visions team working inside Blizzard to complete the project.
After Warcraft III: Reforged’s poor reception, knocking the Diablo II remake out of the park is a must if Blizzard hopes to redeem themselves for what many consider to be the worst Blizzard release in recent memory.
