A Decade-Old, Long-Desired FFXIV Hairstyle Is Finally Up For Grabs

Fashionistas in Final Fantasy 14 have been waiting for nearly a decade to get one specific updo, and now they can—for a price. The “Head Hound” hairstyle has arrived in the FFXIV Optional Item shop, bringing a hairstyle that debuted in Heavensward to the masses. 

This style is deceptively complicated, featuring braids leading into a ponytail on one side, and bangs hanging over the face on the other. 

“Using this copy of Modern Aesthetics unlocks Hilda Ware's iconic hairstyle at the aesthetician,” referencing a beloved character from the award-winning Heavensward expansion, so this is likely a welcome addition. 

But that’s not where devs stopped torturing fans with its presence—it most recently popped up on the raid boss Wicked Thunder, who quickly also became a fan favorite among FFXIV players. In short, they needed to ensure that only the coolest NPCs were rocking the style for influencer reasons, obviously. 

The hairdo is only $5, though it comes with the usual cosmetic caveat that each purchase is only for one character, so getting it across your account will add up. 

For a much cheaper steal per character, consider the “Love Heart” emote from last year’s Valentione’s Day event now available for $2, or get the popular “Dote” emote for $1.20 that players across the game use to ping (or pester) their friends.
