Neverwinter Warlocks Become Healers & Fighters Dig in When Undermountain Launches

When the next chapter in Neverwinter is released, most classes will be finding some significant changes. In the latest Undermountain blog, developers discuss what Fighters and Warlocks can expect when the expansion launches later this month.

Warlock

In the current game, Warlocks have a decent ability to heal. With Undermountain, a new Paragon Path will officially be that of a healer. Called Soulweaver, Warlocks will use "souls of enemies to heal" themselves and party members.

Soul Essence is gathered through damaging enemies and is used by the Warlock to heal. "Specializing in group heals and self-sacrifices, the Soulweaver brings its own flavor to the role and feels quite a bit different than a traditional healer".

Fighters

Fighters and Great Weapon Fighters in Undermountain will have unique Paragon Paths. Fighters will find some big changes to both blocking and with its new class mechanic called "Dig In".

The hit points of your block are determined by your remaining stamina and your maximum hit points. When you raise your shield to block an attack, the attack depletes your stamina as if it were hit points, damaging your hit points only if the damage exceeded your block. While your shield is raised, you won’t regain any stamina, but lower it and it will begin to refill.

The fighter’s new class mechanic Dig In builds on the fundamentals of block and provides an alternate method to block enemy attacks. Dig in sees the fighter hunker down into an extreme defensive position, blocking attacks from all directions (block only blocks frontal attacks.) Fighters also regain stamina while using dig in, albeit at a reduced rate.
