When the Iceborne expansion launches for Monster Hunter World, it will come with subspecies monsters. This new type of monster offers players a whole new experience. Subspecies are "extreme, twisted variations that amp up the difficulty and require master-level hunting skills to defeat". The video showcases the brute wyvern Fulgur Anjanath that channels lightning and the Ebony Odogaron that now has a wider attack range and dragon elemental.
The Monster Hunter: World team has announced the PlayStation 4 beta dates for the Iceborne expansion. PlayStation Plus members can dip a toe in the frigid waters from June 21st to June 23rd. All PlayStation 4 players can check it out from June 28th to June 30th.
From now through May 20th, PlayStation 4 players can take advantage of a free trial version of Monster Hunter World. Players can game with everyone, including full-version owners, and check out the "opening section of the full version" with "nearly all of the story, quests, armor and upgrades". Those who choose to purchase MHW will have progress retained.

Monster Hunter World players will be able to take part in the Spring Blossom Fest on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC starting today. The event will run through May 16th and players will be able to take part in seasonal festivities and make their own Spring Blossom Fest gear. During the event, "almost all previously released event quests, including exclusive Spring Blossom Fest quests, will be made available". This gives players a chance to hunt materials for any equipment they may have missed.
On May 9th, Monster Hunter World PC players will finally be able to take part in the MHW / The Witcher crossover event. Geralt will arrive on May 9th when the event goes live along with a new patch. Players will enjoy Doug Cockle reprising his voice acting duties as Geralt who will have "new mysteries to solve and gear to craft". Players will be able to craft the "Geralt full set of armor" and the "Witcher's Silver Sword" during the event.
Geralt of Rivia, the Witcher himself, has arrived in the console version of Monster Hunter World to take on "an otherworldly creature" that has arrived in New World. Voiced by original series actor Doug Cockle, Geralt will have "all new mysteries to solve and gear to craft" during his time in the game. Players will be able to complete a special assignment to craft "the Geralt full set of armor" as well as the "Witcher's Silver Sword".
From now through February 21st, Monster Hunter World players can take part in Appreciation Fest. The event sees the Gathering Hub festively decorated with balloons and the NPCs are wearing new costumes. In addition, players will be able to collect a ton of new gear through the end of the event on February 21st.
On February 8th, XBox One and PlayStation 4 Monster Hunter World players will get to try out the Geralt of Rivia crossover content, though PC players will have to wait an indeterminate amount of time. The announcement was made through the Monster Hunter Twitter, but without any reference to what that content will include.
