Marvel's Avengers Articles
Marvel's Avengers dearth of content and recently announced delays have left its live service running on fumes. Mike offers his thoughts on the game's difficult situation.
Crystal Dynamics has released their State of the Game for Marvel's Avengers that they had mentioned was on the way, and would answer a lot of questions players have had over the direction the game is headed in. Championed by Scott Amos, the Crystal Dynamics Studio Head, the blog also goes over many "areas of impact" - essentially issues the game has had that Crystal Dynamics has been working to improve.
Yesterday Crystal Dynamics rolled out a new patch with a bunch of bug fixes, quality of life features, and increased rewards. In addition to the fixes and features, new content rolls out today in the form of Tachyon Rifts and a new outpost known as the Shield Substation Zero outpost.
Marvel's Avengers recently released patch 1.3 that was slated to fix at least one thousand issues, including several that prevented players from progressing in the story mission and some additional Avengers Initiative mission chains. It also added some new content, the Mega Hive. In the aftermath of the patch, we're left wondering, with so many "fixes" why are things getting worse?
Marvel's Avengers is in a unique predicament. Crystal Dynamics, the developer behind the game, faces Infinity War level odds at delivering a premiere, iconic experience, that resonates with fans, and engages gamers, with an intellectual property that is widely beloved, harshly judged, and ever changing. In a move that was announced, then retracted, then announced again, Spider-Man will be part of Marvel's Avengers, but exclusive to the PS4 version. As with the Hawkeye reveal, Spider-Man is the second character that has been announced as a post-launch character.
With the release of the July War Table, I think I've finally crossed into highly anticipated territory with Marvel's Avengers. The game looks well-polished at this point and the team's willingness to show a good deal of gameplay (and allow players to play through a solid chunk of content in the beta) inspire confidence in me that Crystal Dynamics may have something solid on their hands.
