Nexon announced this morning its plans to shutter MapleStory 2, stating that the global service will cease on May 27th, 2020.
MapleStory 2 players will have lots of new things to explore thanks to today's arrival of the Awakening Expansion Update, something developers are calling the largest update since launch. Players will find an increased level cap, a second job rank for every class, the addition of new Chaos Raids and Hard Dungeons and "unlocks the Eye of Lapenta, including Ascendant tier weapons".
This past weekend's MapleStory Fest 2019 was a big hit. The sold out show featured cosplay events, developer panels, prize giveaways, influencer meet and greets and announcements for both MapleStory and MapleStory 2. Most notably, MapleStory 2 players learned that the Striker class is coming to MapleStory 2 on May 30th and new content creator programs were announced for both games.
If all goes according to plan, the March 28th update to MapleStory 2 will include some big changes to the in-game economy, particularly with regard to the Meso Market. "Our focus was to create a place where low-level players can gain some extra mesos for progression, as well as a place where well-equipped players can get Merets for cosmetic purposes". The goal was not to cause harm to in-game balance or give a whiff of "pay to win".
Last month, Nexon developers introduced MapleStory 2 players to "Project New Leaf", its initiative to respond to player feedback about the game. After gathering data from the community, developers will be releasing a new patch today that removes the "Fairfight" system, "a balancing system that normalizes high-level players with lower level ones". The removal of Fairfight was the most-requested system update by the player community and provides endgame players with more exploration opportunities.
The MapleStory 2 site has been updated with a new producer's letter that lays out the details of a new communications initiative. The 3-month project will begin soon and is focused primarily on actively working with the community to gather feedback to "make changes to the major pain points of the game".
MapleStory 2 has been updated with the second phase of the Skybound expansion. Players will find the new Fortress Rumble Dungeon that can yield Legendary weapons and armor. "Players who reach the 'Trusted' reputation can enter 5 types of single-player dungeons."
On January 10th, Nexon will be launching the second phase of the MapleStory 2 Skybound expansion. Players will find new epic quests, the Lunar New Year event, the Fortress Rumble Dungeon and the Sky Fortress area to explore. Players who earn the "Trusted" reputation can take part in the Fortress Rumble Dungeon with five types of single-player activities. Doing so can earn Legendary weapons and armor through rank rewards.
MapleStory 2 has been patched to bring the game's largest update since launch to the game. Players will be able to try out the new Soul Binder class as well as take time to explore the new Sky Fortress location. In addition, there have been major updates to content and a new PvP mode has been added.
The MapleStory 2 site has a lengthy post from Producer Jungsoo Lee to discuss big changes coming to the end game. The goal is to provide players with more options to "enjoy the variety of experiences the game has to offer". Currently, the community has been critical with the lack of content at level cap.

Nexon has announced that MapleStory 2 has been updated with the Chaos Rising content expansion. Players can look forward to more than a few quality of life improvements, the Turkey Terror limited time event, the Maple Harvest and Chaos Raids in a pair of fan-favorite dungeons.

MapleStory 2 is off to a fast start thanks to over a million registered accounts. Servers are being added around the world, but in Oceania in particular. To celebrate the big numbers, Nexon will be unleashing a pair of in-game events that should net players some nice bonuses and nifty in-game treats.
MapleStory 2 is an MMORPG that takes place in the same world as MapleStory 1 but essentially a different dimension. You take the role of the hero while choosing from one of nine jobs.
