According to The Daily Dot, Riot Games raked in $1.6 billion dollars last year alone thanks to League of Legends. The dollar figure came via a SuperData Research report that combines digital sales data from publisher, developers and payment providers and pairs it with "qualitative consumer insight".
By comparison, Valve's Dota 2 earned $238 million, certainly nothing to sneeze at, but a distant second to LoL in the MOBA genre. Other games outside the battle arena game type where LoL is king included:
- CrossFire: $1.1B
- Dungeon Fighter Online: $1.0B
- World of Warcraft: $814M
- World of Tanks: $446M
- Lineage I: $339M
- Maplestory: $253M
- DOTA 2: $238M
- Counter-Strike: Global Offensive: $221M
- Grand Theft Auto V: $205M
