New World Season 2, Blood of the Sands, is now live, with a new story, new Elite Trial, cosmetics, and of course, Season Pass and PvP reward tracks.

There’s a season launch trailer that delves into the seasonal story, and what’s at stake with the big new update. “But none were prepared for what lies beneath the sands,” says the intro. I know, if you've been paying attention to New World Season 2 announcements at all, you know there is a giant sand worm beneath those sands. And you also probably know that battling it is one of the centerpieces of the season in the new 20-player Elite trial.

That Elite Trial and a new seasonal trial, The Hatchery, are tied to the new story. In the seasonal trial, you'll have to stop some members who are looking to hatch sandworm eggs, and make things a lot more hectic under the sands. Speaking of sandworms, the new Heartrune ability, The Devourer, is also yours for the taking. If you are looking to be able to command a large sand worm to burst from the ground and unleash huge damage on your enemies, this is your season.

Season 2 expands upon Brimstone Sands, closes First Light, and otherwise changes some things in Aeternum. The Silver Crows return from Season 1, and there are some new characters to meet and assist you–or challenge you. There's also a new 3v3 PVP arena, and a whole lot of rewards to get your hands on.

This season is the one that will bring Transmog to New World, though you’ll have to wait a little longer for that, as it has been announced as a mid-season addition.

There are some things to occupy your time, including raid groups finally arriving, the return of Summer Medleyfaire, and even the introduction of the Siege of Sulfur world event.

See the full release notes over at New World.
