MMORPG.com: Can you introduce yourself to our readers? What do you do at Space Dwarves Entertainment and what is your involvement with Bionic Marine Command Online?
Terrence: I’m Terrence, the Creator and Director of Space Dwarves Entertainment and Bionic Marine Command Online. My primary duties include overseeing the overall development of the game, collaborating with the core design team, and managing the overall scope of our Bionic Marine Command Online. At Space Dwarves, we have a horizontal organizational structure that allows us to make great strides in developing our game while bouncing ideas off of each other on the fly.
MMORPG.com: Can you give us your elevator pitch for Bionic Marine Command Online?
Terrence: Bionic Marine Command Online is a creative sandbox RPG and MOBA entry in the storied space opera genre in which you utilize customizable mechs, space ships, and bionic augmentations to take the fight to intergalactic robber barons that have greedily decimated the outer planetary colonies and bought the existing power structures to quell rebellion. It is currently in early Alpha.
MMORPG.com: If you had to pick one thing that sets Bionic Marine Command apart from the other RPGs on the market what would it be?
Terrence: That’s simple. We’re offering true diversity of gameplay types and community crowdsourcing. Whereas most MMOs and RPGs offer different ways to engage in one form of gameplay, we offering several. You can play as a Bionic Marine or relentless mercenary in more of a traditional open world RPG setting, construct fully customizable Mechs to battle with in our MOBA-style Mech battlefields, or pilot a spaceship with your friends in more of a sandbox exploration environment. We also plan on including player housing and customization through our Border Moons features. Players will be able to participate in crowdsourcing through our forums. Popular community content will likely be shown in game.
MMORPG.com: On your Steam Green Light page you refer to this as a sandbox game. That term gets thrown around a lot lately. What does the term sandpark mean to you?
Terrence: As I mentioned before, one of our goals is allowing players to dictate their own narrative pace. We have three primary game modes, each one its own genre. Players can enjoy multiple forms of gameplay without feeling pressured to be orthodox in their choices. We also don't force a linear narrative experience. We allow people to choose where they want to go and are not limited by a rigid story structure because of the way player progress works. Player growth is independent from story flow, builds through personalized combat, and the mission structure adjusts accordingly.
MMORPG.com: On steam BMCO is bundled with Utherous. What can you tell us about Utherous?
Terrence: Utherous is a game also in early Alpha. It’s an open world RPG that takes place in a world that heavily incorporates steampunk and high fantasy themes. If you want to know more they will be streaming their game on the 6th. Check out their site for details!
MMORPG.com: You are creating Bionic Marine Command Online with the help of Atavism. Can you tell us why you choose to use Atavism and what does it bring to the table for your team?
Terrence: Atavism gives us a full editing suite and RPG-friendly feature modules like crafting to make our game. It allows a small but talented studio like ours to make a game that is relatively large in scope and ambition.
MMORPG.com: I understand that you have community streams to answers questions about BCMO and Utherous. Do you have any planned in the near future?
Terrence: Yes, we plan to have live community streams biweekly. In the spirit of open development and transparency we're showing people exactly where we are in the development process. We just had our first stream which was pretty successful, and we’re going to be holding our biweekly streams every other Thursday. The next BMCO stream will be on our Twitch page on Thursday, February 12th from 6-9 p.m. EST, which can be found on our Steam Greenlight page or by searching for Spacedwarves on Twitch. The stream following that will be on the 26th.
The next Utherous stream will be Friday the 6th from 6-8 p.m. PST and they will be giving away closed Alpha keys. You can find their stream in the same locations respective to their game, through Twitch and our Steam Greenlight page.
