Today’s Becoming™ tale is the second part of the The Trials of Nuada Airgetlám. When we last saw our hero Nuada, he was standing outside one of the entrances to The Depths. As the previous segment revealed, these entrances are not necessarily in fixed locations in Camelot Unchained. They will certainly move and change through the influence of the Veilstorms, and also as a way to help with realm balance on a server. Having fixed entrances , depending on how acquiring control works in the release version, would tend to benefit the more powerful realm(s), and moving them around can be a good mechanic in helping to even the odds a bit.
We also saw a time where all of the Realms could speak the same language. This caused some speculation on the forums that inter-realm communication might be possible. Well, as I did in Dark Age of Camelot (and received more than a little mocking for doing so), I won't include it in this game either. We are not naïve enough to believe this will prevent all players from communicating with friends or the other realms, but we are not going to make it easy for them to do so.
Today’s tale is focused on the adventures of Nuada and company within The Depths. As I’ve talked about before, this is not a typical dungeon, though there will be familiar elements within it. This episode contains at least one typical (albeit a little bit tropish) mistake that will be familiar to most of us who have played RPGs whether in PnP/computer games. It also gives us some additional backstory on two of his companions, one of whom bears a relatively famous name from Arthurian literature. Another of them is a typically bad pun from me, but with a nice dual meaning to coincide with all the talk of dual-wielding that is currently going on in the forums.
In this story, our players will get a taste of what they will face in The Depths if we make that stretch goal. We believe this place will be one of the very cool and unique features of Camelot Unchained. In this adventure, we see only a taste of what The Depths has to offer - and a very “G-rated” version of that. Over the remaining episodes, more and more will be revealed, and both the location and its inhabitants will take more than a step or two down a very dark path.
As per the first story, this is an episodic tale so…
