MMORPG.com:

What can you tell us about the lore behind Mytheon?

Mytheon Team:

How about I give you a snippet of backstory:

For too long, the gods have dominated the affairs of men. Zeus and his pantheon of Greek deities have ruled the Mediterranean, while Ra and his legion of Egyptian lords have held sway over the deserts of antiquity. Powerless, mankind has been at the mercy of their fickle ambitions since the dawn of history.

Yet even the gods answer to a higher authority: the sisters of Fate. Silently watching the affairs of the cosmos with unknowable wisdom, these three Fates have intervened and declared an end to the reign of gods. Mortals must now be given a chance to prove themselves worthy of self-rule.

But such a reward will not come easy. The gods will not surrender their throne without a fight. By decree of the Fates, a "tournament of stones" has been set in motion between the divine pantheons and the champions of mankind. The stones bestow on their caster the power to summon mythological creatures from legends past and unleash dazzling spells on an opponent. Open to mortals of every age, race, and creed, the tournament is a chance for humanity to prove its mettle in combat and triumph over the very gods who would extinguish all hopes of freedom.

An epic clash looms. The destiny of the world lies in the balance. Will a hero rise to the challenge, mastering the trials and tribulation to free humanity? Or will the gods repel the challengers and maintain their iron grip across Earth?

MMORPG.com:

Can you tell us about Mytheon and how it is played?

Mytheon Team:

Mytheon is played similar to other top down isometric action games (Diablo, Titan Quest, Baldur's Gate). The interface design is a very simple point click move system, with targeting and creature select. Since players can control multiple creatures on the battlefield we have added some unique quality of life features for players including "drag select" and "stances." Players can also assume direct control of creatures they have on the battlefield to scout ahead or to view multiple combat situations. To cast power stones, players simply have to click on a stone in their tactical UI and click the desired location on the battlefield.

The Petroglyph team has spent over a year tweaking and tuning the interface designs in Mytheon to ensure players of all types ease right into the gameplay experience.

MMORPG.com:

Mytheon is an action/strategy game with RPG elements. Can you tell us how extensive those elements are and how they are implemented?

Mytheon Team:

Mytheon's action/strategy gameplay focuses around Power Stones. These stones summon minions, structures, or unleash powerful spells onto the field of battle. You can have several of these stones active at one time, so each avatar has the potential to form small mini groups. The strategy aspect focuses on the control and use of these conjured stone objects.

The RPG elements of Mytheon primarily revolve around customization and character advancement. Like most RPG's, players will earn experience for defeating enemy creatures, completing Challenges (quests) and accomplishing great Feats (achievements). Through this process, players will be able to advance in level, find and equip new gear, and collect new stones. Unlike other RPG games where spells become obsolete after a certain number of levels, the power stones in Mytheon will not. As the player becomes more powerful, so do the stones they control.

MMORPG.com:

How many players will be able to play the game at one time?

Mytheon Team:

Our player hubs have been designed to support hundreds of players simultaneously. We consider these areas a key connection point for players to meet, group, trade, craft, and start new adventures. While adventuring in an instanced map, we currently have balanced our group sizes up to four players. Because of the unique gameplay nature of Mytheon, this helps tremendously in ensuring there is enough content and space for players to have an enjoyable experience.

MMORPG.com:

We are told that Mytheon has an interesting crafting system, can you tell us a little bit about that?

Mytheon Team:

I can't dive into great detail just yet, but I can say our crafting system revolves around an ancient device called the Stone Forge. This unique system allows players to lottery off surplus stones, clone existing stones in their library, and create new stones and items through recipes purchased from vendors and dropped as loot off mobs.

MMORPG.com:

Mytheon will be a micro-transaction based game. Can you explain what kinds of items will be available in the shop?

Mytheon Team:

Mytheon is unique in that micro-transactions are not required to enjoy the game. Instead the micro transaction system was designed to provide a unique level of convenience for the player. This means players will be able to buy are variety of goods including: single use and group based buff potions, visually unique gear, vanity items, GUI enhancements, and of course power stones. Our goal is to seamlessly integrate the model into the normal game play experience as to avoid the sometimes community polarizing effects of "paying" vs. "non-paying" players.

MMORPG.com:

Is the world of Mytheon static or persistent?

Mytheon Team:

Mytheon is more of a persistent world in that areas such as character advancement, in-game economy, player interaction, crafting, etc. are always evolving each time you log on. Also, as the game matures and with the inclusion of new Mythologies via expansions, the state of the world will continue to change.

MMORPG.com:

In what ways will Mytheon appeal to people who enjoy traditional MMORPGs?

Mytheon Team:

Appealing to the traditional MMORPG player has always been very important to us. In order to reach this audience we knew the core design needed to have key features RPG players have come to expect including: customization, advancement, collection, content, and socialization. These combined with our unique action/strategy combat component will give players a very compelling and satisfying gameplay experience that feels familiar, but with a slight twist.
