MMORPG.COM: {Psyichic}: Will classes other then the melee have a choice of snow shielding? If so how will you balance this with a fairy? Will fairies have options that are fun as well? When you want to create a house will you have to be extremely high level? Or can medium to medium low also build houses? (Not referring to the house you start with)
Stephane: Every class has access to sport activities in DnL. As for shields, we are thinking of creating special ones, not used for fighting. House building will be based on purely economical principles; you will have to play for some time or to borrow some money to be able to buy a piece of land, then to build something ranging from a hut to a castle.
MMORPG.COM: {Oakstead}: Will player owned fortresses have any way of being transferred without being conquered by the opposite alignment such as by selling or being condemned by the high level noble ruling the territory? If condemned could there be a formal fighting contest between interested clans to determine ownership?
Stephane: Once a specific number of fortresses are taken, the barony switches sides. Elections are then held to elect a new baron. The option you suggest isn't advisable, even if it looks good at first glance, because our goal is to allow you to become a baron without fighting. Indeed, politics mostly depends on the SXP side, not FXP.
MMORPG.COM:

{Liek09}: Is it possible to have a feature/option for generals in battle field to evaluate soldier's individual/group performance (how many enemy players were killed by a soldier/group of your army) to create a reward system that promote soldiers on battle field based on skills?

Stephane: These options are too specific to address at this particular moment. Battle management will be dealt with when some work has been done on the other concepts.
MMORPG.COM: {Alpha_and_Omega}: Will being an explorer take away potential skill points that could have been used in other classes, or will it be just like a crafter, not effecting the FXP of you character? (Will a fighter have more skill points and be a better fighter then a fighter/explorer?)
Stephane: The explorer skill tree will have an FXP section and an SXP section. If a player decides to develop only combat skills, he can have more than a player who decides to spend some in exploration as well. He may or may not be more powerful in this case, because some exploration skills can be really helpful when you are in danger.
MMORPG.COM: {Zyke}: Will melee combat be about strategy- special moves, possible fighting stances/styles, and different techniques, or will it just be hack and slash and whoever has better equipment wins? Will you be able to fight on a single person mount? (A horse for example) What army management tools will there be?
Stephane: Of course, equipment will have a great impact on fights, but using special attacks at the right time can also change the outcome. You need to pay attention to your stamina while you are fighting, or you might end up losing a winning fight. And yes, you can fight while riding, and even get special attacks depending on the mount you ride.
MMORPG.COM: {Fraek}: Will we be able to bury things, like corpses, chests or objects? Can we mark out the spot that they are buried in on a map? Will it be possible to drop from a hang-glider while standing on your shield, in order to go straight from flying to snow-shielding? Will Lords be able to make a town/city/village/kingdom a Full PvP area?
Stephane: Yes, you can technically decide to bury an item in a specific place and to put a cross on a map. However, we will have to pay attention to the amount of buried items, in order to avoid server saturation. It is possible to drop items from a hang-glider, but physics are not included. We didn't give players the possibility to define full PvP zones, but we have some good surprises for PK-lovers.
MMORPG.COM: {Matthiasa}: Will Fairies be able to fly high enough to make it impossible to hit them with melee weapons, and if so what is the current planned maximum height that they will be able to fly? Will Fairies remain flying when they casts spell while in the air? Will fortresses be able to have Arrow-slits? What are the specifications of the computers used to take the current screenshots?
Stephane: Fairy flight height will be limited, and lower than a hang-glider. They can be attacked with a melee weapon, and can cast spells while flying. Some fortresses will have loopholes, but people in charge can decide the level of defense, and arrows can be shot automatically at the attackers.
MMORPG.COM: {Orcc}: I've heard the combat will be strategic and real-time, so when you click the mouse in combat you will make a melee attack. Can you give us a detailed example of how combat works for all the classes?
Stephane: Fighters will have to manage their special hits and stamina level while fighting. They will have to switch to defense mode if they are running out of stamina, and if they require recovery time after getting hit.
Casters will have to manage their mana pool and the power of their spells in order not to get attacked too quickly. They will have to avoid melee fights at all costs.
Hunters will use their stealth abilities to ambush people and disappear without a trace. But they will have to stay away from powerful monsters.
Healers will mostly remain as a backup, but they can also become very efficient in some fights, such as clerics when facing undead creatures.
MMORPG.COM: {Phainein}: What is the point of dividing clan intentions by "fighter", "explorer", and "crafter"? I understand each type gets special tools relating to their field of expertise, but doesn't this limit clans who wish to include and work in all 3 types? What would be the purpose of creating an Explorer clan? One of the concerns I've heard a lot on MMORPGs is how much of a "timesink" they are. What efforts are being made to appeal DnL to the casual gamer? Will someone be able to log on for just a few hours and find a group, go hunt? Will it take forever to find a crafter to make an item, or complete a quest? Will there be swimming? I see some lovely beaches in the screenshots; I hope we can swim in those beautiful blue bodies of water. Are there plans to add fishing? I know this may seem silly but I have several friends who very much enjoy fishing in MMORPGs.
Stephane: One DnL player can join several clans. For purposes of clarity to help casual players, we prefer to allow a clan to specialize in only one activity. Our goal is to bring people some fun, even if they have just a little time to play. The usual attitude of finding a levelling group isn't the only way to enjoy DnL. The simple fact of doing an exploration quest can quickly bring you a lot of pleasure, and can be very useful afterward, for you as well as for the others.
MMORPG.COM: {Mirloc}: How intelligent are the NPCs? Can they set ambushes? Do the wolves hunt the rabbits? Do the plants grow in the springtime, get dry and die in the fall, or are the unaffected by seasons and time, and we always see the same thing? Does the wood rot as time passes, etc?
Stephane: There is a real ecosystem in DnL, and some monsters feed upon others. There are also crop fields that grow according to the season. But if our system isn't as realistic as the real one, it's certainly the most realistic one in the MMORPG industry at the moment.
MMORPG.COM: Once again, thank you for taking the time to answer these questions for our members!
Stephane: Thanks for letting us keep your readers up to date about Dark and Light!
