Dungeon Runners: Dev Chat Log

MMORPG.com: DarkKev asks:Townston is getting old... Is there going to be a bigger town like Townston, with new heroes to interact with?

MMORPG.com: We are no longer taking any more questions; we will try to get through the remaining questions for the last 15 minutes :)

[NC]Stephen: You're sick of Townston? Really?! Shame on you! ;) Townston is the Town's Town! What else do you need?!

MMORPG.com: Gollias asks:Do you plan incorporate guilds in the future?

[NC]Anson: Definitely! There will be guilds to collect toe nail clippings, guilds to process the clippings into glue, guilds to make cardboard weapons with the glue...

[NC]Anson: There will be in-game support for guilds - displaying guild affiliations and tracking PvP records to begin with, and we're looking at guild banking, guild housing, and (dare I say it?) guild dungeons in the future. MarkT hasn't given me all the details yet, but we're excited and working hard on it.

MMORPG.com: TrentH asks:How long both on and off of the MMO scene did it take to develop DR from start to finish?

[NC]Stephen: Let's see... I've been working on the game since February 2006.

[NC]Stephen: And the game was in development for several years before that.

[NC]Stephen: That makes me think it took a really long time.

[NC]Stephen: Don't make me sad with questions like that. :(

[NC]Stephen: Too long. heh

MMORPG.com: hjjjjjh asks:anychance gonna adjust the kingcoin turn ins? as it stads once hit lvl 30 they seem be useless turn in. just my opinion

[NC]MarkT: King's Coins do have more uses planned for in the future. Right now they are solely used for improving your items - which can be pretty handy if you haven't had a good item drop in a while. We are playing around with the idea to offer up some Mythic items for King's Coins from time to time somewhere in the Dungeons... some day... :)

MMORPG.com: Sabito asks:Any plans for an equipment upgrade system, sockets/augments/enchants ect?

[NC]MarkT: Upgradeable equipment? Why would you ever need to upgrade your Rusty Plate Helm of the Annoying Liger? Sheesh! Actually, we do have plans for ways to let you upgrade your items both in level and with new enhancements! Did you see that question I just answered about the King's Coins? :)

[NC]MarkT: they just might have other uses hehe

MMORPG.com: Amplify asks:Do you have any plans to impliment an auction house like system or just player to player trades?

[NC]Stephen: We were just discussing an auction house. It's an interesting idea... and one that we've not fully though through.

[NC]Stephen: the biggest problem is this...

[NC]Stephen: how do you trade items when you can trade gold?

[NC]Stephen: discuss!

[NC]Stephen: :)

[NC]MarkT: Hey guys, I gotta jet, but the other devs are sticking around. Thanks for chatting. Feel free to ask more questions on our forums and if you see me in the game... ask away! :)

[NC]Stephen: ooh, can't trade gold... dang typos :)

MMORPG.com: Mangaocid asks:How do you forsee the addition of a membership only server effecting community interaction?

[NC]Anson: I see members-only servers as a pressure valve, a way to "get away for awhile" but still play the game. I don't really see it as something that members spend most of their time on, avoiding the lowly non-member peons. Instead, I generally see members playing on the regular servers most of the time and enjoying the other benefits of membership.

[NC]Stephen: Indeed. It's a nice escape, not a forced thing. :)

MMORPG.com: DarkKev asks:Will you have a discounted subscription plan for, maybe say, 6-month prepay?

[NC]TwinMoon: It's $5, and you can already play for free. :)

[NC]Stephen: Discount?! :)

[NC]Stephen: Boo!

[NC]Stephen: You don't want my kids to eat!

[NC]Stephen: Shame!

[NC]Stephen: :)

MMORPG.com: Starlin asks:Is there anything being done to address the cost of potions to a player who chooses to play as a mage with the light armor/intellect pieces? I find myself chewing through rows and rows of health potions which are beginning to cost a forture as the cost goes up for them as you level up. Its either that or wear armor more suited to a different play style in order to save money.

[NC]Stephen: No.

[NC]Stephen: Well

[NC]Stephen: Maybe.

[NC]Stephen: We just added a skill called Blue Screen of Life. It's a neat mana shield. That should help you all-int mages survive more.

[NC]Stephen: :)

MMORPG.com: Goya asks:Will the walking delay be fixed in the upcoming build?

[NC]TwinMoon: Lagless movement - it's our next press release!

[NC]Stephen: It rules.

[NC]Stephen: Oh, that means yes. :)

MMORPG.com: SilencE asks:Are you planning to put in some sort of 'Battleground' or more then 10-20 vs 10-20, like 100 vs 100 pvp-wars?

[NC]Stephen: Massive battles?! That would rule!

[NC]Stephen: Sadly, it's kind of a bad idea.

[NC]Stephen: Why?

[NC]Bzus: Gotta take off. Thanks for playing!

[NC]Stephen: Because matching such a game will take some kind of miracle of waiting. I hate waiting. So... you won't have to!

[NC]Stephen: :)

MMORPG.com: Sindee asks:Sockets,Disenchanting,Crafting .... Are there plans for any of these downtime activities in DR ?

[NC]Anson: We're focused on action, on having fun for 15 minutes *or* 2 hours, and crafting kind of gets in the way. We don't think players will log on for 15 minutes to babysit a crafting process, and if everything just takes 15 minutes, I don't think the players who want crafting will be happy either.

[NC]Stephen: Pfft. Crafting rules, as long as we can get it in for short attention span players.

[NC]Stephen: Maybe oneday.

[NC]Stephen: Simple stuff.

MMORPG.com: Mangoacid-GameFace asks:What has been the greatest challenge in working with and creating Dungeon Runners?

[NC]Stephen: I can sum it up in a few words:

[NC]Stephen: Working with terrible code.

[NC]Stephen: :)

[NC]Stephen: We inherited a mess. And have been cleaning it up ever sicne.

[NC]Stephen: since even

[NC]Stephen: :)

MMORPG.com: LegendRunner asks:After the more pvp question, got another one: The more Skills, the more fun in pvp. That way Builds exist, well.. you know, having the best setup of skills ect. Will there come an update with loads of new skills? (Hope so :X)

[NC]Stephen: We are adding skills every build. Indeed, I look forward to the day that it takes you an hour to scroll through all the skills. Oh, the carpal tunnel lawsuits will be coming shortly!

MMORPG.com: pirate_x asks:Would it be possible to implement a "character page" for paid members so that we can see what my character and my friends' are wearing, and skill set? Like a myspace page for my Dungeon Runner character.

[NC]TwinMoon: NCsoft is working on a whole boatload of stuff in this regard. We plan on being lazy until they're done with it. Well, Stephen is anyway.

[NC]Stephen: Oh!

[NC]Stephen: :)

[NC]Stephen: Lazy = Marketing.

[NC]Stephen: :)

MMORPG.com: gamerman98 asks:is there any plans to make small raid type dungeons where 10 or so players can take down a huge and nasty boss?

[NC]Stephen: Good idea. It will be done.

MMORPG.com: Fdap asks:Reguarding the multiple characters. Is that for members only? Will there be only 1 bank per account or per character? And will there be a shared area for items?

[NC]Anson: Members and non-members both will have multiple characters per account. However, the bank will be per-character, no sharing at this time.

[NC]Anson: Maybe later, maybe not.

MMORPG.com: Shukano asks:Whats aspect of dungeon runners did you find the most difficult to develop so far?

[NC]Stephen: Umm. As TwinMoon put it... "The parts that work"

[NC]Stephen: honestly, though...

[NC]Stephen: The nastiest part has been reworking poorly designed systems that we inherited to work well.

[NC]Stephen: Ask any developer... that's no fun. :) It's much nicer to design your own stuff from scratch.

MMORPG.com: Gollias asks:How do you plan to advertise Dungeon Runners on a mass scale?

[NC]TwinMoon: Sandwich boards across the planet. We're taking volunteers. And, by the way, you need to make the sandwich board yourself. And then get it approved by the ESRB. Then wear it in a highly trafficked area.

[NC]TwinMoon: On the sidewalk.

[NC]Stephen: (no marketing money, enuf said)

MMORPG.com: TrentH asks:In a reference to an earlier question about world expansion, allowing more players on at once, Stephen noted PvP servers able to hold 500+ players at once, would this number be considered large in comparison to games like WoW or Everquest II which have thousands of players on at once?

[NC]Anson: On a technical level, we compare favorably in that we mean "one server" by "one world" - and most MMOs don't. As a free game, we have a strong impetus to maximize the number of people playing on each physical machine, and frankly we've really excelled here.

[NC]Stephen: Yeah, most MMOs have many machines to a single world. Not DR.

[NC]Stephen: We rule! ;)

MMORPG.com: Shukano asks:How do you feel about being compared to games such as Diablo?

[NC]TwinMoon: We're being compared to Diablo?!?! Right on! Hello - a marketing manager's dream. We are honored, no, dumbstruck that people like Dungeon Runners that much. We rule!

[NC]Stephen: Man, the rulage is ruling!

[NC]Stephen: ;)

MMORPG.com: Gollias asks:Are there plans to add new classes?

[NC]Stephen: More classes?

[NC]Stephen: Are you for real?

[NC]Stephen: I believe that with our awesome mix-and-match system, you can generate more than 300 classes already!

[NC]Stephen: But!

[NC]Stephen: We will keep adding skills that open up new titles.

[NC]Stephen: Like summoning...

[NC]Stephen: Oh, man... I gotta go play DR now. After all this talking about it.

MMORPG.com: That's all for today folks :)

MMORPG.com: Thank you, [NC]ers (and you NC_ rebel) for joining us! Thank you forthegamers.org for hosting! And thank you users for participating!
