The Simple Glowing Beauty of an Origin PC - SPONSORED

When Origin PC agreed to build me a custom MMORPG.com themed tower, I about had a heart attack. I’ve been playing with Origin PCs at conventions since what seems forever. My old self-built tower was definitely getting long in the tooth, and I’d been looking for what my next step would be. The planets aligned, and here I am showing off this brand new AMD Ryzen 7 2700 powered beast.

Now, off the bat, I want to make it clear that I get to keep this beauty. It’s got the coolest piece of MMORPG.com related swag I’ve ever seen in the MMORPG logo printed on one of the tempered glass sides, so it’s not like they could take it back if they wanted to. Any tower that lets me show off a decade of my writing career is going to have to be pried from my cold dead hands. In short, this is a sponsored article.

The warm glow of electric sex in the window...

Let’s go over the specs

  • Processor: AMD RYZEN 7 2700 8-Core
  • Graphic Card: 11GB NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
  • Memory: 16GB ORIGIN PC DDR4 Powered by Kingston 3000MHz (2 X 8GB)
  • Operating System: MS Windows 10 Home
  • OS Drive: 1TB Samsung 960 Pro PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD
  • Storage Bay Drive #1: 10TB Seagate BarraCuda Pro
  • VR Panel: ORIGIN PC VR Panel
  • Case Lighting: ORIGIN PC RGB Lighting w/ RF Remote and Motherboard Control
  • Case Fans: ORIGIN PC High-Performance Ultra Silent Fans
  • Power Supply: 1000 Watt EVGA SuperNOVA G3

Now, all of that alone would be enough to trump what my own rig used to have, but then Origin went and made the thing as pretty as possible with impeccable blue cable management, custom blue-colored liquid cooling, and a customizable internal lighting setup so that I can always feel like I’m inside a spaceship in my little home office. Why the blue? MMORPG.com’s main color, of course! The internal RGB lighting is controllable with a remote that lets you change the brightness, the mode (breathing, blinking, cycling, etc), and the color of the lights with a press of a button.

The side panel with the MMORPG logo is using Origin’s new PC UV Glass Printing technology, which means they printed directly on the glass side panel so it’s scratch and stain resistant and significantly cheaper than a traditional custom paint job. It’s also worth noting that all Origin PCs come with Free Lifetime 24/7 technical support and Free Lifetime Labor for any future upgrades. So even if I need something fixed or swapped out at a later date, the Florida-based company has me covered.

As pretty as it is, how does it perform?

Although my last CPU was an Intel i7-4790k, I was surprised to see just how much the newer Ryzen could outperform the trust ol’ i7. Being that the Ryzen 7 2700 is only roughly 2 months on the market, it’s not surprising that it’s vastly more efficient, double the cores (8), double the threads (16) and hugely faster with its multi core integer speed.  It’s an overall faster multi-core processor by a mile! Multi-tasking, something I do frequently (processing video, writing articles, watching streams, and playing games all at once), is actually possible on the 2nd Gen AMD Ryzen CPUs. I’ve never had a machine that felt this versatile, that’s for sure.

Add in the proven power of the 11GB GeForce GTX 1080Ti, the 16GB of Kingston HyperX DDR4 RAM, and the blazing fast speed of the Samsung PCIe NVMe OS drive, and I’ve got a machine that makes me loathe when I have to use anything else.

The video version of this article.

The build quality, cable management, attention to detail with the lighting, liquid cooling, and even blue-sleeved cables make me realize I was doing it all wrong by building my own PC for so long. The extra cost of letting professionals handle the dirty work would have saved me hassles and headaches for years.

Having an MMORPG.com branded PC makes me wish we had a central office for all of us to to gather in - just so I could show this off to someone other than my wife and five-year-old. They are not as impressed as I know Garrett, Suzie, Mike, and the gang would be.

Origin’s line of Gaming Desktops start as low as $1200, roughly $30 a month if you use their financing, and all of them come with RGB and liquid cooling as standard features. The one we were built was in the Millenium Tower, though they have small form factors, Mids, and Super Towers as well. The double glass doors on the Millenium are to die for, and it as well as the Genesis can do variable MoBo mounting so you can choose the orientation of the components (see above with the 90 degree configuration).

I cannot begin to tell you how happy I am with the end result, and I’m already plotting my next laptop upgrade to be an Origin PC as well. They’ve won me over as a fan, and if you’re in the market for a new gaming rig, you can’t do much better than Origin these days.
