A Unique Look and Design
Part of a three-light series (keep an eye out for our review of the Govee x EVANGELION Glide Y Lights and Govee x EVANGELION Gaming Wall Light coming soon), the Govee x EVANGELION RGBIC Wi-Fi Gaming Light Bars are in essence a reskinned version of the original H6047 Gaming Light Bars. While the unique skins are something to be addressed shortly let's first take a look at the design and build of the light bars.
Following in the footsteps of the DreamView G1 Pro Gaming Light, the Gaming Light Bars lean on a simple but effective design. The kit comes with two light bars with detachable stands, a controller box, a power adapter and an audio cable for audio syncing effects. The light bars are encased in a hard plastic outer shell making them feel sturdy and durable. The RGBIC lights are covered by a layer of diffuser-style plastic dispersing light as it passes through resulting in a soft warm light effect.
The base plates are attached by two small screws and a piece of pre-mounted adhesive tape ensuring an extra layer of security and stability for the build. Once attached the light bars are then connected to the controller box via an attached USB Type-C cable. As for the controller box, it has a simple, straightforward design offering an easy-to-use method to control the basic functions of the Gaming Light Bars.
As for the RGB lights, as with all Govee products, the light bars feature RGBIC (RGB Independent Control) making them exceptionally versatile and incredibly customizable. Unlike traditional RGB where a strip of individual lights works in tandem to create a single lighting effect, RGBIC effectively gives the user complete control over each light. The result is a much more creative and robust lighting experience.
As for the EVA-1-inspired skin, it is easy to see how the anime’s unique art direction has impacted the overall look of this special edition Gaming Light Bars. A base color of purple is accented brilliantly with bright green lines and markings throughout giving it a distinctly EVANGELION-inspired look. For fans of the Anime, the Govee x EVANGELION RGBIC Wi-Fi Gaming Light Bars offer a unique-looking light that would be a nice visual accent to their gaming setup.
More Than a Pretty Light
While the design elements of the Gaming Light Bars highlight this latest collaboration, the Gaming Light Bars are more than a pretty light. Thanks to Govee's years of design and refinement the Gaming Light Bars offer a host of impressive lighting features. For starters, setting up and connecting to the Gaming Light Bars is a simple and quick process. It takes longer to unbox the lights than it does to set it up. After a quick assembly and power-up via the included controller, users have access to all of the basic features of the light. Color change, brightness and mode change can easily managed via the controller.
However, to leverage all that the Light Bars have to offer simply download the Govee App (available on iOS and Android) and once opened, will immediately recognize the light bars. With a couple of quick clicks, you’ll have full access to everything the light bars have to offer. Some of the highlights include over 40 scene modes to help create the perfect atmosphere for their gaming experience. Zone-specific custom lighting and scene building are also managed through the app.
For those who want to add a little flair to their audio experience, the Govee x EVANGELION RGBIC Wi-Fi Gaming Light Bars also include an audio passthrough cable that allows the lights to sync up with your headphone audio. If you would rather leverage speakers for audio the built-in mic also allows for audio/visual sync. The whole system is easy to use and understand and holds the same high standard of lighting and control as all of the Govee products I’ve reviewed.
Govee and EVANGELION have also taken their collaboration one step further by offering special lighting effects unique to the Govee x EVANGELION RGBIC Wi-Fi Gaming Light Bars. Adding these effects to your lights is all easily managed from the app and takes only a moment to set up and use. Much like previous collaborations, the lighting effects are inspired by and reflect the mood and feeling of the collaboration (in this case, EVANGELION). It's a fun little extra that helps these lights stand out.
Final Thoughts
The real question is whether the Govee x EVANGELION RGBIC Wi-Fi Gaming Light Bars are worth picking up when there is a perfectly good H6047 Gaming Light Bar already in existence. This is entirely a preference question as there is no price difference between the two. The Gaming Light Bars are clean-looking, easy to use and an exceptionally customizable light bar experience. They work seamlessly with the rest of the Govee lineup and offer some beautiful customization to your setup.
The collaboration with EVANGELION has produced a unique-looking, thematic version of an already great light. Ultimately the answer to the proposed question comes down to whether you're a fan of the anime, simply love the look or want a more traditional design.
