Game Gear: It's Audio Autumn in Hardware Reviews!

And a heaping helping of other content, too!

Hello everybody, welcome back to Game Gear! I’m Chris, the Hardware Editor here at MMORPG, and this is the column where I pontificate about the latest happenings in the world of gaming gear. This month, I’d like to go a little off the page and give you a peek behind the curtain into what we’ve been up to and our plans for the coming month.

First off, I’d like to welcome all of our new hardware writers to the fold. We’ve seen some great writing already from Matthew Keith and Kasey Gilder. As we’ve expanded our team at GameSpace, we’re also tapping the talents of Joseph Bradford who has an extensive hardware review history; Robert Baddeley, our overclocking guru; Damien Gula, a real life pastor and PC enthusiast; and David Holmes, whose first assignment is an excellent racing chair from Vertagear. These guys bring an enthusiasm and knowledge-base to the table we are absolutely excited to have.

Just as importantly, having a rotating pool of team members means that we can offer more regular hardware coverage without sacrificing anything from our MMO and RPG writing. That will always, always be our primary focus here at MMORPG, but being able to give you insight into the latest and greatest gaming tech is a something we love to do and have always done since our inception more than ten years ago.

From late August until today, we’ve made a point to cover a number of pivotal streaming microphones. From the Blue Yeti, to the Audio-Technica AT2020USB+, to the Razer Seiren, and we hope at least one more before we’re through. This was on purpose to help provide some context to your choice and spurred by your own comments and suggestions. Too often, reviews exist in isolation. All three of those microphones are great, but which is the best for you between those great choices? That context is perhaps the most important element to the prospective buyer on the fence. That’s something we’re going to be pushing for, several products of a type, and calling back to other reviews we’ve covered so you can compare right here at MMORPG.com.

In keeping with that, we’re continuing on with the audio focus through September into October with what I’ve begun thinking of as “Audio Autumn” in our review coverage. We’ll be looking at headphones and headsets next, giving several options from the major players in the field, including the Blue Lola’s we looked at last week. If you’ve settled on a mic, hopefully this coming month will help you upgrade your headphones next.

But that’s not all. Outside of any focus, we always aim to bring you a wide array of products. So amidst those reviews, you’ll also find some gaming chairs, a keyboard and mouse or two, Crucial’s new SSD, and hopefully a few internal and external components to boot. The best part for you? We’re listening. If you want to see something reviewed, I will do my best to make that happen if we have the talent and know-how to do it right. We’re also beginning to work with more companies on giveaways to get the products we write about into your hands, free of charge. Stay tuned.

If you haven’t yet, be sure to subscribe to our YouTube page. We’ve begun covering hardware over there, too, to allow you to see some of the products we write about in action. With that said, any of us doing videos are running solo and boy are we envious of tech channels that hire camera and editing teams.

With that, it’s time to get back to work. Until next time, MMO fans!
