A Hefty Foundation
Opening the TK75PRO was like ripping open a new Christmas present and I couldn’t wait to dig in. A plastic keyboard cover to protect the keys, frosted tissue, and a perfectly fitted box to hold the keyboard and any cords or pieces underneath were the only things holding me back. Lifting the TK75PRO out of the box, I was surprised at the actual weight and heft of the frame. This brings me to my first and favorite feature combination of the TK75PRO: the aluminum frame and the gasket mount design. There is an almost instinctive satisfaction in the weight of a solid-aluminum frame that I have begun to look for in every keyboard I purchase—and this sucker is heavy. It makes every tick-tack and keystroke feel like a deliberate, quality experience. The TK75PRO absolutely nails this concept, oozing quality and stability with its aluminum foundation.
However, when you pair the aluminum frame with the gasket mount design, the entire build feels like it's elevated to the next level. The multi-layered cushioning definitely transforms the typing experience into one that’s incredibly fast, smooth, and enjoyable. The blend of these features makes the TK75PRO not just functional and premium, but a genuine delight to use.
One overlooked feature that I also really liked is the aluminum volume knob in the top right corner. It doesn’t take up a lot of room and is just tall enough to be easily grabbed and adjusted in the middle of combat. I can’t stress enough how much I love the simple design of this feature, because visually it blends in seamlessly with the rest of the build and is about the same size as any of the other keys. The knob has a slightly bumpy tactile rotation that I really enjoy, and you can also press the knob to “pause” any sound quickly, and press it again to unmute the sound.
Thock and Awe
The TK75PRO’s typing experience is elevated by its inclusion of the KTT Hyacinth linear switches, which, when paired with the acoustic foam, deliver a deliciously creamy “thocky” sound that’s downright addictive. I instantly fell in love with their deep and satisfying “thock-thock-thock” sound and the padded feel they provided.
These switches have actually won me over so thoroughly, that I’m very seriously considering swapping out my brown switches in another project for these Hyacinth switches in the future. Luckily, you don’t have to worry if Hyacinth switches aren’t your vibe. At launch, the TK75PRO will offer two different types of switches, and the keyboard is hot-swappable to any other 3-5 pin KTT switches. If you’ve already owned a few different keyboards, you probably own a keycap puller, but it was nice to see that Gamakay included one for this purpose anyway.
Color C-c-c-combos
I was genuinely impressed by the TK75PRO’s choice of three frame colors—black, pink, and white. However, I wasn’t as enthusiastic about the keycap color pairings. While the combinations are decent, they just didn’t hit the mark aesthetically for me. My chosen model, the white frame with blue/purple/white keycaps, is very pretty but doesn’t quite match my black and white skull-themed setup. With that being said, it’s worth noting that swapping out keycaps is quick and easy, so you can personalize the look to suit your taste.
Software and Colors
Gamakay has their own software available on their website where you can update the TK75PRO’s drivers, customize button functions, configure macros, and change the backlighting. The keyboard’s box boasts “16.8 million RGB colors”, which is a pretty big claim, so that was of course the first thing I played with. The settings are pretty robust, letting you change the light mode, speed, and brightness, but the color shifts left a little to be desired. I was able to choose any color I wanted from a giant color picker, as well as enter hex or RGB color codes, but the color changes were always slightly off.
For example, I selected a bright red that was a little faded with the code #FE2D2E and the color reflected on the keyboard was definitely more pink than red. The same thing happens with blues and greens. So the color match didn’t seem to be all there, but going straight for the all-saturated colors at the highest point of the color picker seemed to work everytime. The main colors were vivid, colorful, and reflected what I had been looking for.
Making Connections
The TK75PRO has three connection modes—2.4 GHz wireless, Bluetooth, and wired. While this isn’t an industry-breaking feature, I still appreciate its inclusion and how it adds more customization and flexibility to the build. I actually really like having a dongle that I can plug into my computer for a faster connection, and having a nice little place on the keyboard to slot it back into means it won’t be lost to the sea of dongles that came before.
Battery Life
With a 4000mAH battery, the TK75PRO lasted me a little over a solid week without needing to be charged! That’s also with RGB lighting on full time. I absolutely abhor having to constantly charge my headset and other wireless devices, and they always seem to go out at the same time, so I was really happy with the battery time on this build. In addition, it comes with your pretty standard 1.5 m (4.9 ft) type-C cable to match your frame color.
TK75 PRO in Action
To say I used and abused the TK75PRO over my time reviewing it is probably a gross understatement. As is probably no surprise to anyone, I game and write full-time, be it in developing documentation, writing stories, role playing, or healing large raids. I am always moving, be it to type up large swaths of text for roleplaying in World of Warcraft or our online tabletop games, brain dumping my latest story into Scrivener, or smashing buttons to try to get off that last minute heal that could possibly turn the tide of a heated moment in a raid.
The TK75PRO held up through all of my abusive daily use and more. Going from roleplaying-to questing-to raiding just felt so seamlessly buttery smooth. For the first time in a while, I didn’t feel like I needed a separate writing keyboard and gaming keyboard, the TK75PRO filled all of those roles for me because it was so dang comfortable to use.
Final Thoughts
Everything about the Gamakay TK75PRO has felt like it was designed to put the power in the hands of the player. It is incredibly comfortable and customizable with plenty of options that add convenience and value to your setup. In my opinion, it is a solid choice for users who are looking to branch out and dip their toes into custom keyboards. With a full aluminum body, premium switches that are hot-swappable, and PBT keycaps, in my opinion it’s definitely worth the price point.
