Boulies Master Series (2024) - Assembly
The assembly of the Boulies Master chair was straightforward and a pretty quick at around 20 minutes. With only eleven steps, most of the process is just unscrewing screws, placing parts and putting the screws back in.
The majority are located on the bottom of the base, twelve in total, and the sides of the backrest where there will be six. As with most computer chairs, the wheelbase is as simple as pressing wheels into their slots and dropping the gas lift in the center. You screw the arms into the tilt base which attaches to the bottom of the chair. There are sliding slots for the arms allowing you to make them quite wide so you can sit criss-cross or leg-tucked-under. It is so great to be able to sit in ways that are most comfortable for me.
Boulies Master Series (2024) - Comfort Features and Durability
As a person who has typically used affordable office chairs in the past, the Boulies Master chair has allowed me to see the kind of quality and comfort that can come with a higher price. After using the chair for a while, I consider it well worth it.
Having sat in office chairs that have claimed to offer lumbar support and, well, not, this chair offers the real deal. You can adjust the lumbar support with the knobs on the side of the backrest and dialing it in truly allowed me to match it to my body and find support in the parts of my back that needed it most. Also, having an aluminum base makes and thick cushioning make it feel much more premium and made to last. I’ve had wheels come loose from bases and have seen others break. I’ve seen bolts and hardware pop through seat cushions. None of that seems like an issue with this chair.
The cushioning is very well done and it, along with the lumbar support, made for the biggest upgrades to me coming from a lower-cost office chair. The cushioning is just soft enough to be comfortable yet is firm enough to not deflate and reveal the frame over time. The Master 2024 does not leave my back and legs hurting after long gaming, writing and art sessions. The Master 2024 has been comfortable enough to even fall asleep accidentally… or purposefully if you are my cat. I’ve done it multiple times while working on my art and have walked into the room several times to find my little fuzzy sleeping on it.
The chair design of the Boulies Master 2024 shares a similar shape with gaming chairs, the different upholstery allows you to further customize the design to your liking. The choices are between Boulies Ultraflex PU leather, water-repellent fabric, and Napa Leather. Each has their color options with Ultraflex PU having three, W/R fabric having four, and Nappa having one. If you opt for the Ultraflex PU, it is Boulies signature leather and feels soft and smooth. If you are looking for a more breathable option, the W/R fabric would the material I would recommend. I personally rock the Ultraflex PU leather.
Being able to tilt the backrest from the upright position to 165 degrees makes it perfect for laying back and taking a nice nap. The tilt function is located on the left, while on the right is the chair height adjustment. I wasn’t at the full 165-degree tilt when I had my naps but it was still a comfortable rest. Speaking of tilts, the dynamic rocking tilt function has a nice 15- degree motion allowing for easy rocking, which was the part that made me fall asleep. I got too comfortable. It can also be locked into place when tilted. I haven’t had a chair with a rocking tilt function like this, so a few times I thought I would fall back being currently 200lbs, but it didn’t. When locked, it felt very secure, secure enough for me to fall asleep comfortably.
Besides the armrests having slots that allow you to adjust the width from the base of the chair, the 4D armrests allow for much more dynamic positioning. They have one lever and two buttons, allowing for adjusting the different positions to whatever is most comfortable. Now, for me that would be the default position but, if that is not your preference, change can be made.
The lever on the outside adjusts the height. A side button on the inner area of the armrest can be adjusted wider. Now that does not include moving the base of the arm rest like the slots where you’ll have to unscrew about to adjust. I like to think of this inner button to adjust if you need more space. The last button, which is on the front inner area, allows adjustment of the changing the angle and sliding the armrest forward and backward. Again, the default was perfect, but this should allow for anyone needing a more comfy arm resting position to obtain it.
The armrest is trimmed in padded leather and are on the firm side. I don’t mind this as often if I sit in a chair with a very soft padded armrest it can quickly get uncomfortable for me as the fluff tends to flatten too fast. Don’t even get me started on chairs with hard plastic armrests. Those are a no-go for me, so this firm padding is a nice in between.
Boulies Master Series (2024) - Cons for Some
For me personally, there were no major cons. It’s a great upgrade for anyone looking for their first middle-tier gaming chair. The price might be a little steep for some, but with the comfort and durability it provides, it’s worth the investment. Though I took no major issues with it, I looked into what others have found so you can be in the loop.
The biggest issue appears to be that the lumbar support is not for everyone. Some people didn’t find it as comfy as I did, even with its adjustments. Other people found the armrests too firm. Like most impressions on comfort and support, it’s subjective.
Final Thoughts
If it’s not already apparent, the Boulies Master was my first true gaming chair, but more than that, my first true highly adjustable computer chair period. The lumbar adjustment was oh-so-satisfying coming from chairs that did not have it. This chair doesn’t need a lower back cushion. With a twist of the knob, the support was there. It’s durable and made to last. And it looks good too, which is always nice.
The current price of $380 isn’t bad for a mid-range chair and feels worth it for the comfort that it offers. Would I recommend it? Heavily, as I haven’t felt this level of support ever in a computer chair. If you’re looking for a chair with great lumbar support, upholstering, durability, and comfort over long gaming sessions, you may find this to be your new favorite chair.
