The Heart of Maguuma & Masteries Explored

The Heart of Maguuma & Masteries Explored - Guild Wars 2 -

ArenaNet has published a pair of new blog posts on the Guild Wars 2 site to give players some of the most in-depth information about the Maguuma Jungle, the setting for the Heart of Thorns expansion, and the new Mastery System that will allow players to enhance their characters in meaningful ways.

The journey through the Maguuma Jungle will feature a look at some of the first tasks players will encounter on starting the expansion. By day, players and NPCs will work together to fortify the new Outposts. By night, Mordrem forces will attack and try to overwhelm the survivors of the Pact Fleet.

The second blog post deals with the highly anticipated Mastery System that allows max-level players to progress beyond the level cap in ways that stretch past the normal "end game" raiding / dungeon / PvP cycle of most MMOs.

Masteries must first be unlocked with Mastery points, which are gained from tasks like completing a chapter in a character’s story, completing achievements, finding secret locations, defeating difficult enemies, performing well in the new adventure system and earning 100 percent completion in maps. New characters can accumulate mastery points, but the points cannot be spent until a character hits level 80. Furthermore, Masteries will bring new benefits to all of the characters in a player’s account. The mastery system was designed to expand players abilities without invalidating past achievements and to grow their characters while focusing on gameplay instead of grinding for new gear.

Most interestingly, Guild Wars 2 fans and players can check out a live stream event to be held during the weekly Points of Interest show on Friday, February 6th in the Guild Wars 2 channel. The event will begin with a pre-show that will kick off at 11:00 am Pacific / 2:00 pm Eastern with the show officially starting at 12:00 pm Pacific / 3:00 pm Eastern.

Check out the blog posts on the Guild Wars 2 site. Before leaving, however, see what you think of the brand new trailer below.
