New Developer Blog Details Mist Champions in Strongholds -

A brand new developer diary has appeared on the Guild Wars 2 site that reveals new information about Strongholds, the new PvP feature coming with Heart of Thorns. In this post, Branden Gee and Hugh Norfolk reveal the first information about Mist Champions, heroes that can turn the tide of battle in any given match if summoned by players.

Mist Champions will be fine-tuned with some major upgrades including an on-summon skill called War Cry that affects the entire map. In addition, each champion will have his or her own special boon to offer: Turai Ossa an aegis; Nika, stealth; and Grymm sends a cannonball into each opponent's face.

Lastly, the post gives the first information about game mode preferences:

Another big addition arriving is game-mode preferences. This will allow players to choose whether they’d like to play Stronghold, Conquest, or both. Players who pick a single game mode will only go into matchmaking with players who pick a single mode. Players who pick both will be matched with a preference toward players who pick both, but may be matched with another group that picked Stronghold or Conquest. Once matchmaking is complete, players will be presented with a selection of maps appropriate for their preferences. For now, Stronghold-only players will skip map selection.
