Guild Wars 2 Articles
Today marks the release of Guild Wars 2's fourth episode of the Icebrood Saga, Jormag Rising, which expands Drizzlewood Coast, and adds some new, dangerous events. Drizzlewood Coast was originally released with the third episodes release, No Quarter, which introduced the premise of siege warfare, which previously only resided in WvWvW, to a PvE map. In Jormag Rising, ArenaNet doubles down on that premise.
Welcome back as I recap the story of Guild Wars 2 thus far. Last time we left off having found the legendary city of Rata Novus and learned all of the Elder Dragons have a weakness. Which is good to know, but there was no indication of what Mordremoth’s weakness was at all. We also found a trail left by Rox and were hot on her and Rytlock’s heels.
Earlier this week the prologue to Living Story Season 5, Bound by Blood, hit the servers and many players are taking their first steps in the newest chapter in the unfolding Guild Wars 2 story. While the possibilities of what is next flourishes, it’s also an excellent time to continue our look back at the story which we’ve experienced thus far.
ArenaNet should be having a good time. The latest update to the Path of Fire expansion came out, it was universally acclaimed by media and players. They’ve scored a win, and regained momentum. But then… well, then an employee spoke out on Twitter. And then the President made an example of her, and another employee. And now ArenaNet is in the middle of a PR blunder of its own creation.
Many of us sat down with Guild Wars 2’s Path of Flame tests over the past two weekends, and this weekend we got together to hammer out how we felt about the expansion’s early content and elite specs. In short, we’re hopeful. Path of Flame seems like a huge improvement over Heart of Thorns, and in-step with the progress the Living World Season 3 made towards making open world content fun again.
Yesterday I wrote a piece loosely arguing the importance of narrative to an MMO experience. With that in mind, I thought today I'd talk about the successes (and failures) of Guild Wars 2's latest Living World episode, Escape From Lion's Arch.
They say opposites attract, and that's definitely true of my husband and me, especially in regard to the way we play MMOs. He's the power-leveler; I'm the explorer. Our natural opposition has caused a lot of contention as we attempt to push our individual play styles onto one another. Try as we might, we continue to wrangle over the question: who's got the better approach to MMOs?
Is it happening, or isn't it? Whether ArenaNet will admit it or not, we're hard-pressed to believe that a boxed expansion to Guild Wars 2 isn't coming in the next year or so. So today, we're listing out five things the staff of MMORPG.com want to see in an expansion. Leave your thoughts in the comments!
