Palia by Singularity 6 is now out on Nintendo Switch! Am I excited? Yes! Want to talk about a new cozy game to play wherever you go, but more importantly, when you are settling in and winding down for the night? Palia is that game. So, with its release on Nintendo Switch, I thought I’d share some early game wisdom, my list of “To-Do's,” to help you out when you start. Ready to get a jump on your cozy life, well, let me help you.
Glider Life
One of the questions I often see from new players is, “Can we only get a glider by buying it?” I understand this thought, and I thought the same when the PC beta first launched, and people glided around. If you are indeed like me, you might start exploring and gathering right from the start instead of doing some of the quests. The quest you want to complete is called “Like a Bird”. Gathering materials will come in handy beforehand since you will need them for your favorite firework-making NPC Najuma to build you one.
Sow, Reap, Sow Again
Gardening for me has been a great way to make money. The first thing I did after getting all my tools was plant some fields and farm. You see, there is a thing called a seed collector you get at level 2 gardening. You’ll never have to rebuy seeds! I just plant crops, take a portion of the harvest, make seeds, and sell the rest. Eventually, getting the recipe to make fertilizer will also come in handy; this way you can grow better crops. Are there better methods to make money and buy more housing plots, recipes, and all the other goodies? Probably, but this is my chosen method, and I hope it helps you out at the start.Don’t forget to upgrade your watering can. It makes watering the plants easy in the long run.
Housing and Property
Are you planning to sleep in a tent forever? While it's a pretty sizable tent, getting your house built should be the top priority at the start. Why? It takes real-life hours, 8 to be exact. Why not knock that off the list early? You can get the building started within the first day of playing, returning later or the next day to your new home. Afterward, buy some land writs from Tall Hall to expand your property. Lay down some more farm fields for more planting and a bigger harvest. Luckily, writs do not cost much except 50 gold, so expanding your land is easily affordable. Buying farming plots to put down is another matter entirely, but I believe in you. Use those green thumbs and farm for gold! (Not literal gold.)
Full up? More Storage!
You like to gather any and everything you see? Me too! Let me save you time by telling you to build more storage boxes! Upgrade your inventory space! It fills up so fast, just picking up things here and there—storage, too, especially if you live your lumberjack or miner life chopping trees and collecting rocks. We start out with a 16 inventory slot bag and one wooden storage box that holds 400 items.
For wooden storage boxes, that means for a stack, it counts each individual item in that stack. It’s easy to fill that box with just 4 stacks of wood or stone, which stack to 100. Upgrading inventory is easy, just go to Zeke’s shop and buy the bag grade. There are 3 levels of upgrade, each costing more than the previous. I highly recommend either making more wood storage chest or upgrading the type of storage container you can make.
Me, I went the route of more wooden storage crates. They are fairly cheap to make, only costing 20 oak logs and 2 flint. When starting out, it’s allowed me to gather and store stuff and not really worry about inventory space.
NPC Talk Time
Chat it up with the NPCs. I want to mostly say do it with your chosen ones you enjoy talking to, but it doesn’t hurt to do each one you run into. I’d say do it every in-game day. It’s an easy way to boost your relationship with them. Of course, you can give them gifts as well. By all means though, just simply lending an ear to listen, as with any relationship NPC or not, can strengthen your bond to them. Eventually, some may even ask you to help with some dilemma they are facing.
By all means, these aren’t golden standard things to do or ways to play. This is the way I played and the method I found that works for me. Maybe it might help you as well. If you have any other tips that might help new players, put them in the comments. I’d be interested in seeing those and possibly using them myself.
